Took my wife out yesterday and, despite the pleasure of her company, the catching was unsatisfactory-- 1 23 inch keeper and 5 shorts. Today, I moved back downlake. They’ve fixed up the launch at the North Rec. really nicely! Anyway, I fished a favorite lower lake creek from 10-1:30 and boxed fish of 22, 23, 26, 27, and 28 inches. Several others in the 25-26 inch range were released with 3 shorts. Planers and cork in 10-25 feet of h2o. Also released a 10-12 pound channel cat that hit the cork bait. Water temp. reached 61. It was a short but productive outing:sunglasses: Wish Jennifer could have come out today. Back to work tomorrow morn after a nice spring break:frowning_face:
Nice! I fished the lower lake last evening for a few hours and only got 3, but at least they were all keepers…22, 24 and 27. Good to see some decent fish down this way.
Yea, they really did do a nice job with that boat ramp. Just got my pass yesterday and ready to start getting my moneys worth out of it!
I wondered how y’all did. Does she bait the hooks and take off her fish or is she still in training?
I fished my tournament Saturday and our fish had “left the building”. I did manage three keepers on four bites in eight hours. To say it was a slow day doesn’t cover it. Guess that happens when you’re not in the right spots. They had been shallow, but must have moved to some secret location(s) when they heard we were going to be fishing a tournament.
I finished in the top half of the tournament and think I am still in third place for the year. All of the bass I caught were around 8’ deep near or on rock. I guess due to the three cool nights in a row. All in all a pretty frustrating day on the lake.
Spoon, she will bait a hook without a problem and count down down rods. I’ll work on her handling of planers. I do most of it simply because it’s faster. Jennifer does know how to read and interpret a graph. She can tell me if there’s bait or a big fish in the cone if I’m away from the console. I do the fish wrangling because I don’t want her to take a dorsal or gill plate from a green, flopping fish. She’s also good with the net, realizing “they don’t swim backwards!”
Above all else, Mrs. Fog understands me. She knew I needed to get back out and have a good outing immediately after we didn’t do well Saturday. As our kids grow and become more independent, I expect her to be out with me more often. Heck, we might end up being just like Jonboy and Debbie or the Buckwells in MSC.
my son and i fished up the little river on sunday morning and he caught a 24" er on a 14foot crappie rod with 6# line. was a good fight and nice catch. ended up with one striper and 26 crappie in the three hours we fished. nice morning.
Fog, Mine used to fish a lot with me. Then she figured out that with a sewing/krafts hobbie she could stay in a climate controlled environment. That has pretty much ended our fishing trips together. She can work the Berrys as good as anyone and in the past she caught her share of perch and stripers when we fished together. Now days once or twice a year we make a trip to the big cloth shop in Gastonia and run on up to Bass Pro on the same trip. We support each others hobbies. She’ll let me show her my new baits and tackle and I’ll try to be enthusiastic when she shows me her new cloth.
My wife went out with me and the kids (5 year olds) last summer. When the kids started playing with the dead herring and smashing them up with pliers, lost interest. When my daughter showed her how their eyes pop out when you squeeze their heads she swore she would never get in the boat again.
That’s funny stuff Steely! My oldest, after watching Deadliest Catch, once bit the head off of a live herring for good luck before a youth tournament. If that didn’t turn Jennifer off nothing will:sunglasses:
According to family legend, my great grandpa took me fishing with him when I was 3 or 4 years old. He was fishing with minnows and I guess I got hungry. Anyway, he told my Mom to be sure I wasn’t hungry next time . Apparently at that age I thought the minnows were Sardines and ate up most of his bait. Not sure if they were alive or dead. Mom told this story shortly after my wife and I were married, can’t imagine why.
