Since none of y’all like to share, I will. I had some friends in town that wanted to fish, so we struck out Friday afternoon to Dunn Sound and the Jetties. We started off with 2 keeper flounder on finger mullet. Next was a nice 33" red on the lightest rod on the boat, and it was released healthy. Next was a slot red, then they shut of like a switch, so we packed it up and headed in. Saturday AM, we didn’t want to get into the parking lot for the bulls, so we decided to troll for spanish. Ended up with 11 keepers and threw 3 back. Also caught 2 huge ladyfish. We went back inside and picked up 4 more flounder and 2 more redfish for them to take back for a fish fry. When we got to the spot inside, there was a jon boat with 2 young guys in it. I saw them pull the anchor and act like they were leaving, so we proceeded to anchor up at a creek mouth. Well, I guess they didn’t like that because I heard some choice words as they drove off, including that we were fishing in the wrong f*&^(@$ place. If you are on here, I apologize for upsetting you. Next time, tell me and I’ll happily move on. But anyways, my friends had a blast and are looking forward to coming back at the end of the month to head south for some skrimpin. FYI, all the flounder but 1 on Saturday came on shrimp. Must be time to change tactices for us. Hope y’all had a great weekend.
9/16 report Fished both sat and sun morning with the new boat sat got a few trout and 2 slot reds 6 under sized no flounder all were caught on artificials. Sunday caught one nice 32" red in the waterway I was not expecting that I’m surprised I got him to the boat since the rod he hit had 10lb test on it. got 3 under sized reds 2 keeper flounder and 5 small ones all in all a good weekend for sure.
Good shot harryt2t. We fished Saturday AM and got the skunk with the exception of a lady fish. We did catch a HUGE skrimp while catching bait. It was longer than a dollar bill. Also saw some dude shrimping up in Dunn Sound. Not sure why because we never get enough decent shrimp to worry about up there. There’s a plenty of good bait sized shrimp though!
Hmmm what time did you go into dunn sound I was up in there from prob 830 til 10 or so. Is that where the honey hole is LOL
That’s where the honey hole was. It hasn’t been much of a honey hole this year. We went up in there around 9 or so. Green Hewes with a V-Max. Was that you in the Pathfinder??? If so, that is a super nice ride. I’d love to move up to that, but I gotta win the lottery first.
No i just got a new 21’ nautic star 214xts the sides are blue with a suzuki 140 on it I was anchored just past the docks. I was looking at the pathfinders but for 20k less you can get the nautic star and to me they are pretty close to the same boat. do you have a poling platform on your boat?
years ago… we used to catch a lot of shrimp in there…Hope to see ya’ll on the water in the morning…I’m finally back in town and ready to wet a hook!
Hopefully I will be out there around noon or so and then early sat I have a family thing sat afternoon in Raleigh so I’ll be off the water by 10 or so sat This is what I’ll be in
Yeah, that was us. I remember seeing you now. I’ll holla next time we come through. We going out around 11 tomorrow am. Jonah has a game at 9, so we’ll get a late start. I’m the green Hewes with the poling platform and the V-Max motor.
Yea I’ll prob be in by then unless the fishing is good the family will understand if I bring them a fresh catch LOL but I’ll be down next weekend.
caught 8 nice Spanish and a few bluefish on the turns, when the lures slowed down enough for them to get interested.
I did ok sat morning got 5 trout 16-18" 2 under slot reds and 2 nice flounder one of which was 28" long and brokewhat I’m assuming was a nice red. all that and I was off the water by 930 am. I wish I could of fished all day
On the water by 12:30. Caught 6 short flounder at the jetties, so we moved out and put 13 spanish and 4 blues in the boat. Went back inside to the former honey hole and put 5 slot reds and a 18" flounder in the boat and missed one trout. The trout was nice, but it just came unbuttoned right before we netted it. GREAT day on the water. Spanish were thick. They were jumpin the whole time we were out trolling.
Kevin, you trolling outside the jetties in your Hewes or you on another boat?
I have only tempted the north jetty one time in mine and it felt like we were on a surf board coming back around. I could hear the prop catching air. Scary feeling.
18’ Hewes Bayfisher/115 4 Stroke Yamaha/6’Powerpole, etc
I knew it was going to be a good day its always like that when I have to leave early LOL. I’ll be there this weekend and see what happens
Goob, yeah, we go out in the Hewes, but I always look outside before I attempt to roll out. If it’s anywhere near rough, we don’t go. I don’t like to bang my boat a lot, so I’m careful the water I go out in. Yeah, harryt2t, it was a good day. I had a good friend with me that wanted some fresh fish, and he got some too! We gonna try it this weekend, but I’m skeptical about the NE wind blowing up a gale on the water. We’ll probably stay inside.
I’ll be inside I’m hoping to get out this afternoon and sat depening on the fishing I may stay sunday if nothing else I’ll get a suntan LOL
Oh, and Harry, that’s a fine ride you have there. I’ll be having to go bigger in the next 3 years as my little ones get not so little. How is that one for storage space? That’s really what I lack in the Hewes.
Thanks gooze, storage is ok it has 2 forward areas and a place for cast net
Then some under console and more under rear seats. If you want stop by
In the morning I’ll be just past the cross roads on the right til 10 or so in the
Morning.
Well sat was windy and a little rough but ended up getiing 7 nice reds 3 over slot 1 under and 3 around 21-22" also got 3 trout and 4 flounder. I wasn’t on the water long from 6 to 9am is all it was miserable trying to fish against the wind.
