Well, the trout bite wasn’t as good as I had hoped, but I’ve had worse days. I was really expecting limits of trout for all of us every day. Friday was the only day we came close. Fourteen of us were 30 fish short of our collective 350 trout limit. We started fishing before the sun broke the horizon and fished until 4:30. All trout were caught on plastic. I’ll blame it on the wind.

Yes, I used the Trout Eye Jigs with red eyes and Bass Assassin plastics. The color they call Chicken on a Chain seemed to be the Go To color.
No, B. Wilson doesn’t fish with us much these days. Since he remarried, he has other priorities, understandably so…I guess. He is building a house at McClellanville, and that is taking up a lot of his time.

They need to back that limit in Louisiana down to 15.

That wouldn’t bother me at all, but I think that is based on opinion rather than data. I have not done personal studies, but the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has. Jason Adriance, a saltwater fisheries biologist with the LDWF, said there are no indications speckled trout are in any kind of trouble. Another marine biologist told us last year that he didn’t think their trout population could be hurt with a rod and reel. That may be an exaggeration, but his point was that it is a very healthy fishery.

What part of Louisiana? I need to try that at least one time? When is the best time to go?
Thanks

I have a camp in Venice, LA. It's about an hour and a half below New Orleans. May and June have been my best months for trout. Trout bite all summer, but I like to wade and as the water warms later in the summer, sharks become more of a concern. Redfish bite through the summer and fall. In early spring, it's harder to plan a trip in advance because weather can be so unpredictable. Wind is not my friend.
