We usually don’t fish on the weekends, but with all the rain in the immediate forecast, we opted for a few hours Saturday and Sunday. Had reports of good action between Susie G and Salem Point so we started pulling planer boards at Susie. We quickly had a fat 22 incher, but except for a couple weak strikes at the entrance to Ballentine Creek, that was it for the day. I was considering changing our “handle” to “Ahab”.
Sunday we pulled planers from Salem Point, back around Susie and the CG station before we finally got into some action off a shallow point just opposite LHM. Got a nice 23 and 24 incher and had several good strikes which we missed. Until we got opposite LHM, hadn’t even seen many fish on the FF. Gulls are a pain in the butt with planers and slip floats. Still had a good time even if the day was not as nice as the forecast.
Sounds like there are some lower lake fish to be had. Thanks for the report! I fished upriver yesterday. Due to the imminent MSC event, I will not say where, but some already know. Anyway, I put the troller down at 8:30 and never cranked the big motor until I called it a day @ 3:30. I pulled a solid 2 mile stretch never doubling back where I caught fish. For the 1st 2 hours, there was no action. Then around 10:30, I began picking up 1 about every 20 minutes for a total of 10 keepers and 1 short. Biggest was around 8 lbs-- a slow, but steady day. Also had several missed good runs.
Why didn’t I go back over productive areas? I try not to hammer an area we might use for the tournament a week beforehand.
I split and stacked wood yesterday morning. What a job!!
Finally got on the water around 3:30. Marked fish in 34’, put the spoon down and had a nice perch. Then they moved. I hit several other spots with the same results until around 4:30. Then the action was hot and heavy for about 30 minutes. I wound up with 23 nice perch and 1 throw back striper. They were spitting out some real big shad. Went to the same place today and caught 1 perch. They were definitely still there but I guess they were dieting today. I’m marking some really big fish in with the perch, have tried larger spoons, but didn’t hook a big one this weekend.
I went out with my son Sunday afternoon around 3:00 out of Acapulco. No fish in close where I had hoped they would be. It was windy and he didn’t want to fish out in the wind where the fish were. Tried a protected area for about an hour in rocky creek but didn’t mark anything. I did mark some good fish out in the river channel, but too windy.
