I was thinking it would be nice to have a weekly tournament. I also play golf and every course has a blitz or skins type game every week or multiple times a week. I know there are several tournaments locally but they are all day and involve captains meeting for a $25-50 entry fee. It would be nice just to have a little deal where anyone could show up on whatever the designated day is and throw money in the hat. I’ve typically found at golf courses this is where you meet your best players and was hoping the same may be true with the fishing. I have ideas of how it could be done fairly and may be something fun. Just seeing if there was interest. This mainly stems from the fact that I have a lot of fridays off and the guys I fish with work then.
We just had one at Haddrell’s Point Tackle, I would gladly assist or attempt to assist in putting another one together if you recieved enough ■■■■■■■■.

Go to Cypress Gardens ramp on Thursday night or before Safe light on Saturday. They have bass tournaments sometimes 4 a week. All different clubs and such.
See how they run them.
Very easy, no capts meetings (most annoying thing about saltwater tournaments). Everyone starts/finishes at the same spot.
No live bait, they check your livewells.
Typically $40 per boat and $10 for biggest fish.
It’s Casual and they have it down to a T.
Definitely worth a trip just to see how it works for them, read the bylaws, and ask some questions.

And in my experience they’re more than happy to share info with you…just go ask!

The bass tournaments are run by Clubs. They are insured, have tax ID’s and other necessary legal documents.
Running tournaments out of a hat might expose you to some liabilities.
Also it takes 3-4 people to run one. Money collector/waiver release. One to check boats/livewells. One to hand out Boat numbers, One to make announcements, release the boats.
Tournament end:
One to watch for late boats, one to weight fish/run scale or bump board, Announcer, Boat number collector, Hand out prizes, multiple to double check the numbers are correct and concur with the outcome.
It’s a team effort.
I would totally be into something like this let me know if I can help call me Bill 843-513-7817
If it will help it’s possible to write an app that will allow a participant to take a picture of their live well and submit for entry. All phones add something called meta data to the picture file that can be used to confirm time, location, phoneID, etc. This would reduce the work fo the organizers. you can also track a phone. Of course there is always the issue of a person agreeing to be tracked. Something to consider though

Yeah I know they do several bass tournaments. I’m talking the same kind of deal but saltwater. You can throw in like $10 redfish $10 trout $10 flounder or any combination you can think of. As leadenwah boy said that sharing of info is good. I’m not trying to post where 3000 people view every post. I just thought you could rotate boat landings or keep it at same landing. It’s not ab the money just a way to fellowship and share information. The tournaments like at Trident and others you have to kill the fish. I’m not trying to kill several trout a year over 20 inches. I also don’t wanna have to go to capt meetings, weigh ins, and multiple locations. Just a deal where you show up at landing 6am have some coffee, talk, pay your money fish til 11-12 come back to landing. You could do it all with pictures on phone and scales. I fish a couple times a week usually and just looking to meet others serious ab fishing. I fish with the same 3-5 people pretty much.
Have different categories
Redfish
Trout
Flounder
$20 buy in for each category. Pick which category/categories you want to fish that day.
Maybe try one where you don’t check the livewells , don’t worry about someone coming in late , don’t worry about someone cheating . How you say ?
Make it a $10 entry fee and give the proceeds to charity or to DNR for stocking of fish or someone in need drawn from a hat , etc., etc.
It has been said it’s better to give than receive.
Something like $10 a person, a 25% gift card to local tackle shop, then the rest donated to a charity in the name of said tournament. Make it more about fishing and social event with bragging rights than winning to try and keep the value of cheating to a minimum.
I’d fish them and know several other people that would as well. I enjoy the competition! I also like giving to a good cause! I unfortunately dont have time for captains meetings and Im not concerned much with tournament tshirts, dinner, raffles. Keep it simple. As far as the money goes, keep entry fees and prize money reasonable. Gift cards would eliminate some cheating. Ive put some thought into this sort of thing so if you need any ideas let me know. LET ME KNOW WHEN THE FIRST EVENT IS!!!
Ok my wife just had a baby so my fishing time has been restricted the last couple weeks to whenever I get a couple hours. I was also thinking starting in dec Jan feb could bring less attendance. I’ll post on here around beginning of march and see if a few of us can get together and make a go at it. I’m with everyone else. I don’t wanna go to a capt meeting and get Tshirt for a $35 tourney. Also I mentioned this being kind of like a blitz at a golf course. There are measures in place to help w this and we could also take measures. It still happens. If you’ve fished tournaments around here you may know a couple guys that have been known to cheat. The difference is this won’t be a sponsored event put on by anyone. No business reputation to uphold. Regular participants will be more than willing to speak out ab cheaters. That’s how it goes down at golf courses. I will post back in march trying to plan a get together. Please come up with ideas of how we could do this.
