My friend landed this guy today. I have seen fish in tanks have deformed spines but never caught a fish like this. Has anyone else ever seen this? It’s gut was fat and tight like it ate something possibly too big or indigestible? We released it so I cant say. It was about 19 inches. I’ve been fishing all my life and have never seen this.
Backbone probably broke when fingerling size…

When you see “Old Glory” waving in the breeze, know that it is the dying breaths of our fallen hero’s that makes it wave.

I’ve caught a few that had that same defect they all were in the 25 to 30 inch range
Or possibly got stuck in some trash that eventually corroded/broke off and its body grew within the trash like that… Weird looking for sure
Fish scoliosis.

Looks like one of the lucky ones that escaped flipper sometime in the past.
