went to some of my better spots, did not mark much on the bottom. Caugth 1 shrimp, hoping this is not a sign of a bad season coming.
Caught some shrimp today baby area…100+ count…every cast. Nice to see some shrinp …but wow…picked out a quart of maybe 60 count…maybe… …dumped the rest back over

This is second hand info given to me…
I’m told that the shrimp have black gill disease. The shrimp are constantly molting trying to throw off the disease and are not growing very big because of the molt.

Shrimp have black gill every year that i can remember. Something else is going on they should be bigger. I throw a 1/2" net all year and they are getting out. Wasnt like thus last year they were grown just not as many.

According to the dnr website years where shrimp are abundant they have to compete harder for food in the creeks so many smaller than normal shrimp start to show up with bigger shrimp in the rivers and beaches. Also the wet year pushes the shrimp out prematurely, especially the Santee and Cooper systems. Mild winter + Gazillions of shrimp in the creeks still = tons of shrimp…IMO. I’m excited
