while i was waiting for the tide to get lower, nailed about 30 trout on a popping cork with DOA. later found a few schools of reds in the flats. they were lovin’ the gold w/ glitter DOA.
Question - Can anyone inform me of a good way to put fish on ice? Let’s not forget we’re talking about kayaks here. thanks
It’s a flexible insulated fish bag with 2 zippers, front and back, made for kayaks, it’s kind of long the last 1/3 or so is folded under in my photos, it’s $75 bucks from http://www.creativefeathers.com/details.cfm?id=183
It comes with ice packs but I use two frozen 2 liter soft drink bottles filled with water. On the hot summer days we had this year the bottles were still 1/3 ice at the end of a long day on the water. I really like mine, Padding4Reds turned me on to them, he likes his too, you can even put your drinks in there too or if you want drink the melted water. They’re easy to clean out too, after getting them “fishy” I rinse mine with a little dish soap and water then hang it up to dry. When I did keep two nice reds, they came out of the bag nice and cold, think about it they were laying on the frozen bottles.
And remember, do not, I repeat, DO NOT move to Greenwood

Hey Scott -
Must be a slow day, surprised you haven't had earlier responses. DOA's are grubs impregnated with scents/flavors -

Around my neck of the flats, when pholks say "DOA", they're almost always talking about DOA shrimps, but the company makes other varieties as well.

if you put salt in the water in the plastic bottles it will be even colder and last longer. if you put it in ice the ice wont melt til it does. just not too much or it will freeze the fish.
this time of year the water is about the same as a fridge.
just make sure you dont tie the stringer too good cause you are TROLLING with live bait when you do. splish splash.
we dont need no reservations we dont need no cruise control
