Western NC Fly Fishing is frustrating...

One of my fishing buddies recently said that he had wife envy. He had just overheard my wife say that the next time she and I were sitting on the sofa watching TV, to reminder her to practice her fishing knots. His wife hunts. I think we both have it good.

We were able to get away to Western North Carolina for a long weekend. We caught one rainbow (~8"), 3 bluegills, and 4 fish so small I could not believe they ate a hook as big as their heads ('never caught bait by hook and line, before).

Beautiful, if breezy day on the river… Few to many leaves on the water to get the line to behave, sometimes. But, I’ll take it, anyway.

PalmerScott…Thank you kind sir…I will let you know how it goes in the next few weeks!!!
Great insight!

I was up there last weekend, and the fishing was very slow. I was able to hook a nice 20" Bow on the east fork. The leaves were making it very hard to keep the line in the water though. The smaller streams fished alot better then the larger ones. Kingmarlin, If you go up to the Bevard area just ask for the Western N.C. waterfall map. They have the most detail on where the streams are and how to get to them.

Davidson river has LOTS of trout. Close to Asheville as well for some r and r

Grew up there. Davidson produced most consitently… Lol there is a hatchery there

PalmerScott,

I just recognized where this picture was taken. You should have gone much farther up river. Once you get another mile or two up river the fishing gets much better. It is mostly one plunge pool after the next. Not a lot of people fish up there due to the walk but it is well worth it. Also more trout tend to hold farther up. Great picture by the way.

Cheers,

Chris

Thanks, Chris. 'Will keep it in mind.

This doesn’t look like western North Charleston…

Just got back from WNC had a good fishing trip, trout was biting small BWO, midges, black or grey, size 20 to 24.
