Me and my buddy started out yesterday on the outgoing tide around 1230 and planned to go out for and hour or so and get back while there was still enough water in the creek. I knew I wouldn’t be satisfied with only few hours on the water.
After catching some mullet and manhadden behind Cummmings point we headed for Ft. Sumter. We posted up on the north side where the channel was and by this time we really only had about 30 minutes or so to fish. So I called the GF and told her we couldn’t get back because it was so low where we were. Which we probably could have in our inlet if we had left then.
I knew I had a long day on the water and was stoked! 30 minutes in the water one rod’s drag takes off and after a 5 minute fight we had a 4 ft black tip on the boat! I love catching sharks because of the fight and how numerous they are around that area. Another 30 minutes or so we had another the same size and something else that snapped my 30lb test braided line that had a 150lb test 4 ft cable leader attached.
At this point I had only brought out a Diet Dr. Pepper and knew we needed to find a marina with some supplies. We ended up at Toller Cove Marina, refueled on both beer and gas and decided to head to the Grillage. Here is where I could use some advice. We anchored up around 100 yds passed the red #2 buoy and threw the lines in the water. The fish finder was showing a line of fish around 17 ft but we never had a hit. We stayed there for and hour or so and after having to cut the anchor line we drifted fishing the bottom from that spot to 200 yds past the buoy and still had no fish… Any advice…
We headed back to Ft Sumter trying to catch Sheepshead around the peer while the tide came in but no luck. We then headed to a spot I have on the flats near marsh and then it was on. Within 10 minutes of being there the rod bends and the drag spins. It’s big, my buddy had not caught anything so I gave him my rod. A good fight later a 40 inch red is in the boat. We are both stoked and rejuvenated. Another
