So me and a buddy went shrimping in Bulls Bay today Oct. 20th and yesterday in the Copahee sound (which we now know was a bad idea). We were wondering if anyone could help us with pointing out what we are doing wrong. This is what we did
Garris landing to BB by way of Anderson Creek
Bait binder bait balls shaped like softball size frisbees. made on boat
we found a sand bar right off the channel after the opening from anderson creek on the left
set our poles out perpendicular to the channel
1 bait ball at each pole
waited 15-25 min. (sometimes dolphins would show up and destroy anything around our poles while we waited)
threw where we thought the bait ball would be (current was moving fast). one guy drove boat up really slow about 6-8 fee off poles while another threw.
not one shrimp out of two days.
So can anyone see what we are doing wrong from that? Is anyone else feeling the same lack of shrimp? any help would be great. not asking for spots just advice please. We’re new to shrimping so anything is good information to us. Thanks.
Sounds like a bad spot. Test throw before you set poles. If you aren’t catching shrimp blind casting, don’t set bait. Move around, if you start catching good shrimp blind casting, stake your claim and set bait.

you are not alone…there are only 3 people who can catch shrimp in Bulls Bay right now and me and you are not one of them
seriously though most people are having trouble finding the shrimp at all this season for some reason…
if I were you I would cut those bait ball sizes down by about 50% or more…it really doesn’t take much Bait Binder, we usually make ours the size of a lime or so…
keep at it and let us know when you finally have some good luck…
I’m having a rough time out there too. Caught a nice Horseshoe Crab two weeks ago but he beat the crap out of me and took my net. Did get 20 shrimp Thursday afternoon after working onepole for 4 hours. I spent many hours daylight and night on Bull’s Bay last week. Every boat I saw came out, setup, threw for awhile then pulled um and went home. No “eee-haas” or activity showing they were on the shrimp. Those 3 people coolering out on Bull’s Bonzo mentioned sure haven’t been around me and I’ve been all over from Bird Island mid-bay South down both channels. Its not rocket science. Get bait binder and make balls/disc. Go where you know they have been in the past. Setup the way you have in the past that worked. Fling net making sure the 8 footer opens all the way and completely covers the bait field. Then do this a lot. Those 3 getting all the shrimp can’t be doing much different. I’m going to wait a week and try again.
If you aren’t pulling shrimp in the boat first pass then time to pull poles and relocate. When you relocate change something up - either different bottom, depths, current.
I start running the poles right after I bait and shrimp are there. If they weren’t, I wouldn’t wait around to see if they “turn on”, I’d pull my poles and go somewhere else. </font id=“Verdana”> </font id=“maroon”> </font id=“size3”>

Get a good chart/GPS and find you a better spot to shrimp. Just because everybody else sets up there does not make it good. I have gotten quite a few full coolers this year and I have never seen anybody near my spot.
Smaller bait balls. I use 5-7 golf ball size spread out pretty far apart.
