What Mando says… My trades are $7.95… That being said, I normally make my minimum purchase at least $2000 or more since it’s $7.95 to get into a stock and another $7.95 to get out of a stock… Thus $15.90 for a round trip trade, that consumes < 1% of your cost.
For instance, if you buy stock for $500 and sell for $600, then you made a $100 (20%) profit, but if you factor in $15.90 of trade fees, then you really only made $84.10 (17%) profit.
skinneej,
do you issue market orders, or limit orders?
I have never messed with market orders, since I’m generally looking to buy at a price, and sell at a price. I would guess most days market orders are okay for most stocks?
I just realized that I mis-understood Turkey’s question.
You pay for a limit and market order only after the transaction takes place. Even then my settlement(when they take out the money for the commission and the purchase (or sale)) takes about 48 hrs.
Mando, I use them both. 90% of what I use are market orders though. I’ll do the math in my head and if I am only saving a few bucks then I will just go ahead and use a market order, but if I am trying to save a more significant percentage, then I will use a limit order. I just get frustrated going back to check to see if my limit order has been filled. Most of the time I just want to buy it and be done with it… That being said… If I had patience, most of my limit orders would have been eventually filled!
CSR today @ 6.28 after the 17% drop in price.
Over the last two days went shopping:
Doubled my position on DUK
Increased my Att position by 50%
Bought LNG,
Bought Hero,
Increased position by TTM by 50%,
Increased HQS by 50%
I went to put a limit sell on MCK at $70.10 last night and found out my 25 free trades expired after 60 days, so I cancelled the order. I would have been up 11% on the sell (it hit well over 70 today) but after commission, it isn’t there yet. Now I’m looking for $73. Citi says it’s going to $79. I’m not too upset, they announced yesterday they are doubling the dividend.
Hold the tomato, fool!
In spite of the run-up in the past yr, projections are very promising. Wish I’d had a position in this a few months back.
