Well my wife was a kindergarten teacher for years. Early in my fishing carrier she brought home a bubble eyed double tailed gold fish. Dammed ugly but i love fish so i kept him fed and the tank cleaned.
I would feed it when I got home from work everyday. On the weekends it would be after a long day one the water.
Some times i would notice he would gobble down the food and then other time he would ignore food all together.
After a while i would find that if caught fish on that trip he would eat as well.
Not long after that i would feed him before i went. If he ate i would fish aggressively. But if he did not i would fish finesse and look for the reaction bite.
All of which i added to my log book to find a pattern.
Basiclly the barometer is your guide!

Very true and very good advice. When I was charter fishing I kept a large saltwater aquarium and correlated the same thing. It never hurts to pay attention:sunglasses:

Never kept a fish tank, good idea. I would watch the birds and squirrels. Ever notice how sometimes you don’t see any of them in the yard and other times you look out and they are running and flying around every where. I feel if they’re feeding maybe the fish are as well.
I’ve learned the same thing about hunting by watching farm animals, and wild animals around the house. If the cows are laying down, the deer probably are too.

My Dad hooked me up with a church friend of his who grew up in Robbinsville NC and learned to fly fish from his granddad. He took me out and gave me some schooling. On the way back he said his granddad taught him to watch the cows in the fields. If they were feeding as a herd go fishing, laying down chillin bite wasnt on.
Great advice! Same reason you go before a front comes in, barometer is dropping and fish are eating.
When my kids were little we bought them identical twin gold fish both in the little bowl. One morning the little girl came down stairs and saw that one of the identical fish had died.
She yelled upstairs to her brother that HIS golf fish had died
People will forget what you said…
People will forget what you did…
But people will never forget how you made them feel.
That doesn’t work at my house. Poor fish only gets to eat once a week when I think about feeding it, because my daughter dang sure won’t remember to do it. He eats every time I feed it.
I went thru the gold fish thing, now I have a 1/2 acr. pond and if I feed the fish and they come quick I load the boat and head out if they don’t come go back to bed!
