What colors are hot right now

Looking forward to making my first trolling trip for the season this weekend and curios what others have been having luck on for BFT and Dolphin.
Looks like 600’-1400’ have been the good areas.
Thanks!

Any color will a ballyhoo under it and your overshooting the fishing if you start in 600.

So true about overshooting. I look for 3 of these things - Color change. Rip with or without weedline Birds sticking with the rip, bait. I start looking around 140’ . Most of the wahoo Ive caught were from 150’ to 250’

Bingo the rips w no weeds…

Great, thanks gentleman. Sounds like the consensus is that color isn’t so much important as finding the fish or the other environmental factors that draw the fish like weed lines and baitfish.

You have two ears and one mouth, science would say you should listen twice as much as you speak.

Always try to start the day running blue/white, green/yellow, green/white and red/black. If you notice one color continually getting hit, swap out to that color.

Do not tell fish stories where the people know you; but particularly, don’t tell them where they know the fish.

If the sky is gray - low light = dark colors splashing
if the sky is bright - sunny = lighter brighter colors

The fish may be 50’ under your baits. Think about what they see looking up!

Copy Nature Boy- Last weekend Gray sky- landed phin on Blue and white.

Blue and white will probably work at midnight

Best color at night is solid black. Go troll the full moon. Good times.

My two favorites…Blue and white, and white and blue.

Dolphin will eat any thing. We were clearing everything last sat to come in. Had a tangle got everything in. Threw the one tangled out(switch no Bally) cleared the rest. Went to reel it in and had a 15 lb phin on it. Had been sitting still 20 or so min cleaning up and pulling riggers and such.

The Venezuelan bubbler works great as well.

I caught a schoolie on a piece of KFC skin once!

Well we had a great day out yesterday, not as many fish as we would have liked but the water and weather couldnt have been better. Caught a few Mahi on just about anything, blue/white, purple black and a cedar plug.
I dont think color mattered as much as finding the fish. No weed lines yesterday that we could find, sporadic weeds here and there, lots of other folks fishing in the area, will be curious to see how they did.

At least for us: I’ve noticed dolphin have been quite fond of bird chains followed by a ballyhoo with a small illander skirt. You can never go wrong with pink/white blue/white or green/yellow. We probably have had 2/3 of our hits on this

2 out of 3 landed yesterday were on a black/purple on the planer rod,probably 15-20 ft deep…

SAFMC you suck!

Blapck / purple tormenter lure on planer rod caught 2 of our 3 yesterday…probably 20ft deep

SAFMC you suck!

Those Dolphin will hit anything if you are on em. Having said that, they hit mostly the pink and white switch yesterday. Next time it might be something else.

Just be ready to try different things and have fun doing it.
