what could this be?

I have two sensor looking things on back of my 84 formula that i have no idea what they are. One is a white round plastic disc about size of beer can with small holes in it like a strainer, but it has a single wire running to it(i pulled off transom to see). The other is another white plastic disc size of beer can with a silver metal strip running down it vertical, havent pulled it to see whats behind it. Does anyone know what these things could be? still working on redoing most on this boat. Its been a real project. Thanks in advance for any help.

you link doesn’t work unless you are regestered, but judging on what you are describing, it sounds like a transmom mounted Mercathode. Its used to slow electrolasis on boats that stay in the water. One is the anode, the other is the cathode, it senses eletrical current in the water and creates a reverse current to counter it.Look at tehthird one down, is that what you are describing? http://www.mercstuff.com/mercathodekit.htm

Yes sir! thats it exactly. Thanks, I was wondering if it was something like that. its a formula 25 SC express. its a learning experience for me. a lot different from my V20 with a yamaha outboard. This inboard motor is not my favorite thing to deal with, But it was a good deal I couldnt pass up. Thanks for you help.

lets see a pic of the boat, those old Formulas were great boats

Here she is. Got her from girlfriends grandfather in Vermilion, Ohio. She is an Erie boat. Everything seems to work. I need a new trailer though, If anyone has any ideas for a trailer that would hold this puppy let me know. Its a little under 5,000.
