What Do Spray Your Reels With After Washing?

In the past, I’ve fished Senators and after fishing, I’ve always used Penn’s Reel Lube stuff that comes in a spray bottle. I spray the reel down, and lightly spray the pole/rollers.

Well, that stuff isn’t really cheap, and it a PITA to find. I just picked up six Internationals and was wondering if there’s a good alternative, or something even better that I should use?

Is WD-40 and ample method of protection? Is it okay to keep on line for LONG periods of time?

Man I have listened to alot of people talk about this. I heard this old old man say something crazy one day though. He said go by bilo and get the cheapest furniture polish particularly one that smells like lemon. Spray that all over your rod and reel. let it soak in while you wash your boat off. Then rub excess off after a while. He said “not only does it protect, and put a nice shine on there. It also smells real nice.” So for 2 years ive been doing that and it works great for me. This was an old guy at Harkers Island NC.

spray and wipe off excess with WD-40 or silicone.

I use crossion X. Get a car washing mit. Use hot soapy water and soap to clean up everything. Let it dry. Make sure ALL the water has drained out of the reels. Add some crossion x to a rag and wipe everything down. $16 for 16oz. My bottle has lasted quite a while. I only use a thin coating.

What size reels did you end up with? Single speed?

If you can’t fix it with a hammer, you’ve got an electrical problem.

mild soap/water, rinse with water. wipe down or air dry

then a light spray of Reel Magic

i’d second that on corrosion x. stuff is amazing. just takes a little to protect and lube. stinks a little though. also, amazing if something get rusty before you can treat it. i had a freshwater baitcaster get jammed because of rust on a post the bearing was spinning on. corrosion x cleaned it like new. no sign of the rust and none since.

Take me fishing

Fresh water wash down. Spray of Reel magic.

I use to use SaltX yers ago then i started using CorrosionX but now I just use water if I have an average day on the water. None of the above has failed me.

Ever sincec I started fishing in saltwater…(Almost 30 years!! First time I ever sat and counted!! WOW) I have used WD40. I’ve got a Zebco of all things that I still use! I got that Zebco for my 10th birthday. I’m 32 this year! The only thing that has happened to that reel is my friend snapping the top guide off. So the rod is about 2" shorted than is should be. But MAN if that combo could talk!!!

Sorry…got a little nostalgic!!! But wd40 has always went on my rods and reels after a thorough wash down!
