I want to see some pictures of different mounts. I recently got into trapping my place and I want to do some life sized mounts for my manly house. I love seeing deer mounts, but I’m particularly interested in smaller mammals right now. Fox, coyote, bobcat, or any type of birds. Just interested in seeing what other people have.
Also interested in the best places for taxidermy. I’m sure everyone has a favorite.
Two were trapped on the club this year. Had one in my sights but didn’t kill it. Had a gorgeous white and silver come out a few years back but out of season. Killed a 30+ lb cat 3 years ago but I put a really big hole in it.
I got deer mounts.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Elk are from Colorado, the deer and turkey are on our hunting farm in Northern Missouri. I also have pheasant mounts somewhere. I am from a little town north of Kansas City, MO. I lived in Summerville for five years and am now back in KC. I left Summerville in September of 2014. Best place I ever lived but the hunting here is amazing. I just bought a LLewellen Setter pup on Friday.
A bobcat I shot in FL back when I was younger. It was the first thing I ever had mounted .
Largest mount in the house, before I got married it was in my kitchen at the dinning room table.
The Baboon… the dumbest thing I have mounted in the house. It is playing cards and smoking a cigar. (cigar removed)It was originally suppose to be mounted so I could put it in a bar chair but arrived from the taxidermy on a stand… now it sits in the corner.
The baboon came from Namibia and as far as baboons go he is not an especially big one, about average. I guess the question would be why did I shoot a baboon? And for that I have no great story, the land owner had an overpopulated amount on his property and was shooting them so he told me I could shoot one if I wanted.
It was however amazing how smart they were. He had a watering hole about 200 yards away from his back patio and the baboons would come out at 7-8 am and drink. He could go out with a broom and shake in in the air and they would look at him and keep drinking. If he pulled out a rifle the would scatter before he could get in above his head. Same thing for a gas truck vs a diesel tractor. The tractor carried food and the gas truck carried hunters. They wouldn’t get with in 400 yards of a gas truck but would follow the tractors. I can tell you baboons are very mean and have teeth bigger than a leopard, a big male can go 100 lbs although the biggest I saw was about 85 and he stayed about 500 yards away.
So once I shot one I didn’t quite know what to do with it so I got it mounted in a fun pose. As I mentioned earlier it is not supposed to be mounted on a base. I wanted it to be able to sit at a bar stool on the kitchen counter, now it just sits in a corner and my kid’s enjoy wearing his hat from time to time. I’m sure I could sell it to some frat house but I’m not sure I am ready to part with it.

I hear ya Fred, me too. My wife doesn’t like dead animals on the wall either. Nothing with eyes goes on her walls. I’ve got a dozen sets of antlers, in my shop Saves me a lot of money at the taxidermist anyway.
