2012 31’ Contender go for? Twin 250s or 300s. Just curious.
If you were in the market for a new 31’ CC, what would you go with and why? Price is not an issue, but we aren’t talking about high dollar money either. Mid tier CC boat.
We’ve got a 33 Dusky with twin Suzuki 300s down in Florida. It’s a sweet boat and is wide and stable with plenty of room for people to ride in the bow. I do feel as though the large bow makes for a bumpy ride as it doesn’t cut through the waves as well as a Contender or what not would.
Love the contender, but would look hard at a Sea Vee. Don’t know what they are running these days. Have a “paid For” boat and plan to stick with that one.
Invincible, Nor-Tech, Deep Impact, SeeVee, Yellowfin, Regulator, Intrepid, Cape Horn, Jupiter, Winter Custom Yachts, Freeeman would be on the list. I could probably name a few more.
Seahunt Gamefish 29 w/ Twin 250’s prolly around $150, maybe less. Best value out there.
Boatless
That's comparing apples to oranges right there.
21 Contender
True, but he asked for apples and oranges. First for what a Contender would cost then for what a “mid-tier” would cost. Contender is clearly not mid-tier. Sea Hunt is. That 29 Gamefish is a hell of a deal…relatively speaking of course.
I looked at Contender. But after looking at Invincible, See Vee, Jupiter, Yellowfin, Intrepid, etc what you get for a new Contender vs the other boats did not add up. I went with the Yellowfin just becasue they deal worked out great. No regrets so far but I also would have been happy with a See Vee, Invinvible, or Intrepid.
My point is there are a lot of better options out there then contender. Plus you don’t see many new ones compared to the other builders.

A friend is in the new boat market and I’m just curious. I know sailfish has that 31’ with twin 300s for $190…I thought that was high, especially with the boat market being the way it is now. I was also considering Contender a mid tier, I apologize if I was wrong. I just didn’t think that it stacked up to a yellowfin of the same size…am I wrong? Also, what about that 35’ Everglades…doesn’t it have a 300K+ pricetag? Is that in the same level as Contender boats?
per length, Contender and SeaVee seem to command top tier money. Bahama and Ocean Hunter also command high $$$.
Yellowfin and Invincible are slightly lower than the above it seems.
Everglades being 300K and Contender being 200K does not make Contender “mid-tier” IMO.
Everglades comes with a lot of bells and whistles, and that’s what you’re paying for if you’re into that stuff.
You are also paying a lot for a name, IMO. A name can mean a lot for resale and product service/support as well, however.
You need to go talk to Billy about the 28 he’s coming out with. You owe it to your friend to advise him of that. It may not be his style, but I can promise you the resale and the experience of having a boat built exactly the way he wants it will carry a lot of value over and beyond what promises to be a hull with an excellent ride and fuel economy and fishing space.
i hope your buddy knows what he is doing since you guys are wanting to know any boat in that price range…everglades and contender are not similar in any fashion…You could go on for days days with names, throw in midnight express or deep impact, maybe even through in fountain or donzi…depends on what you want, what you are going to do, where you are going to go, etc…im hoping this is just a thread out of board-em because that is some serious cash just to ask around what boat is the “best”…
Have you looked at the new Mako 28’? I don’t have one, but have looked at the specs, and the company has been around for years. I would at least put it in the running.
You can get a lot of boat these days for $150k!! There are plenty of good used boats out there on the market that still have some warranty etc. Why take all that depreciation hit of buying a new boat?
