NO WAKE means your boat should not be putting out a wake! Look behind you! just because your going slow doesnt mean your not putting out a wake just above idle people. if your driving past a boat landing and people keep looking at you with, that look, its not because you have a cool boat or they are checking out your 17yr old girlfriend, its because your putting out a bigger wake at your “no wake speed” than you would be if you were throttled up Jack a$$. Also what makes you think its ok to pull right up to the dock cutting off 6 other freakin boats waiting to get out of the water!
I slow to no wake for DNR signs only. There are so many (**() docks on every creek and river in the lowcountry now that you can hardly get your boat on plane any more. So I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t care if someone posts a slow to no wake sign on their dock. Get a lift for your boat or deal with the fact that you built your dock on a navigable waterway.
Regardless if it’s a DNR or home made sign, if you come within 50 feet of a dock, anchored vessel, or person (skiier, etc.), then it’s illegal to operate in excess of idle speed. Again, common sense ain’t so common. http://www.dnr.sc.gov/regs/pdf/boating.pdf

I know the laws and follow them. Thanks for implying that I don’t. But when I’m on a creek that’s 30 yards wide and there are 20 docks where people have posted “Slow to No Wake” signs, I don’t really care what the signs say and I’m not slowing down.

Apparently you do not know the laws or follow them. SC law requires you to operate at idle speed within 50 feet of a dock, anchored vessel, or person (skiier, etc.).
Unless all the docks are on the same side of the creek and you stay on the far side more than 50 feet from the docks, you must slow to idle speed or you are breaking the law.
It doesn’t matter if there are “homemade” signs, “official” signs, or no signs at all.

Actually, I do know the law. And the places I am speaking of are Beresford Creek (docks all on one side), the Folly River (docks all on one side), Big Bay Creek at Edisto (docks all on one side); all of these are at least 100 feet across, some are 200. So I’m not breaking the law.

Luke 22-25
22One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s go over to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set out. 23As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger.
24The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!”
He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. 25"Where is your faith?" he asked his disciples.
In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.”
Is there a book out there with rules and such??? I hope to have a boat soon and don’t want to be lacking the info about rules and whatnot. With as many people down here that boat I don’t see why theyd be screwing around at the ramp. I fig youd go through the boat the day before you go out, check all the things to check so its 100% loaded n all ya gotta do is launch it. Right?

All very good stuff, but Bonzo hit mine, hopefully if you’re in the water before or after daylight you’re not a transplant or new on the water, once you start backing in or loading or unloading cut your d@’"’ lights off, you’re blinding people and causing a dangerous and unnessary situation!
All of these things are wrong or inconsiderate but the absolute worst thing of all is SEEING THESE OTHER KNUCKLEHEADS AND NOT SAYING ANYTHING TO THEM. If you are scared to say anything or don’t want to embarras or offend someone, you deserve what you get. If you think they are a new boater and just don’t know any better, then kindly say something. If you think they are just inconsiderate knuckleheads then say something not so kinkly.

“kinkly” ?
Telling people what you think of them or how they should be doing something (especially in a public place) is a good way to get your butt kicked.
Boating is supposed to be fun, not something to get into a fight over.
