What happened to common sense people?

Don’t read if you are sensitive or don’t want your feelings hurt.

If you don’t crank up your boat before going to the ramp, how do you know it will actually run when you get there? It takes an extra 5 minutes to figure out something might be wrong at your house, like the usual dead battery. That way if there is a problem, you can work on the boat easily instead of sitting on the ramp getting the evil eye from everyone else as you pull your motor cover off.

If you have ever asked “why is gas coming out of my bilge pump”, maybe you shouldn’t put the nozzle in the rod holder. We all make mistakes and don’t try to find an explanation when it is something obviously did wrong.

Motor flushing. If you have to ask how, they make these really cool things called owner’s manual that will have the information you need plus other valuable tips. Most people know how to flush a motor before they can drive, if you are new to a boat, get a manual and read it. You spent alot of money on a boat, pony up the extra 20 bucks for one.

Seafoam will fix it. Yeah, if you are lucky. It is cheap to try first, but if your motor is acting up, chances are you have something blocking a small hole. The only way to remove it is to get in there and clean it. If there was a miracle cleaner in the can, boat shops would be hurting for business.

High octane gas will fix low octane or bad gas. No it won’t, you just diluted high octane gas with bad gas.

Bearings, they need grease and they need to be checked for play. Two hours on a saturday once a year will prevent you from losing a hub on the way to the ramp.

If you see someone sitting in the water with their cowl off of the motor, stop and ask them if they need a hand, especially if there are young kids on the boat. You might not be able to tow them in, but maybe all they need is a wrench real fast.

Towing. Your vehicle has one, you should know it, and you shouldn’t max it out or even come close. If you have a half ton with a boat that has three axles, you might h

If your battery keeps going dead, installing a dual-purpose battery probably won’t fix the problem. Nor will a combiner …

The ones that get me are the ones in there daddy’s new grady with their 15 friends totally overloading the boat capacity that think oh there are no rules on the water, we can do what we want! lets get plastered and blow past the boat landings cause, im cool! Then sporting $3000 worth of penn internationals on the rocket launchers that wont ever see the water. MAN THAT TICKS ME OFF!! I may not have brand new internationals or a $100,000 boat with a big sound system, but atleast i can say my little 23’er is mine, and i know the rules of the water, and yes there are rules, probably more than there are on the road. Read a book before you get someone killed. Ok im done. Thats my 2 cents.

Boaters that carry no docking lines or anchors. Allowing people to bow ride. And how about pulling those fenders in the boat while you are running. Oh yeah, those little green and red lights (and that white one also) they have a use.

My favorite: Wait until your trailer wheels are almost in the water before loading the cooler, rods, bait, food, removing the tie-downs, pumping the bulb, installing the plug and whatever else you should have been doing when the rest of us were in the staging area doing ours. Once I even saw a guy back down to the water and then go into the store and buy food and drinks.

I took my boat out for a (failed)test drive and there were 4-5 people fishing off the floating dock at Shem Creek with lines going everywhere and boats including mine trying to launch or land.

A DNR guy was at the top of the ramp and, as far as I know, said nothing to them. So we can biatch and moan all day…nothing is going to be done about it.

Stan, that has happened to me there(minus the DNR guy).I let them know I'm coming to the dock and then just run right up there and cut whatever lines I need to with my prop.I can cut the line off at home.

“Modern day Robin Hoodism-Steal from the sucessful and give to the poorly motivated.”

When teaching someone new how to back a boat up at ramp. Do not pick the busiest time at the ramp. We want to get out and catch the tides to fish!!

If you are teaching someone to back up and launch a boat and the boats are lining up on the water and the smiles are gone from the waiting boats, it is time to let someone who knows what they are doing jump and get the job done.

We have all been there and understand how nice it is to have someone to help you with a boat launch and docking, but our patience last only so long.

A good sign that the lesson is over is when the person on the boat begins to argue with the person in the car trying their hardest to do right and begins to cry. Shut up, beach your boat and get in the car and get your boat out of the way. More arguing or yelling louder is not going to get the trailer magically back up correctly. True story at Paradise Island this weekend.

Jealous much???

^^ I don’t think he’s jealous. But there are a lot of stupid kids out on the water these days that think that they’re too good to follow the rules.

I swear I think part of the problem is that there were so many people that bought boats with the equity from their homes 2 years ago that had no idea what a boat was or how to use it. People that can’t run a john boat are driving 25 footers and running them into the docks. Watch the yankees pull up to the dock with a running tide. It would be humorous if it wasn’t so sad watching a pretty boat catch a corner of a dock and a $2000 repair bill.

I’ll admit, I wouldn’t mind a new boat, but my 16 footer is paid, it runs, and it catches fish. I’ll upgrade when I have cash to do it.

Once on the water if you are meeting someone both boats are to turn right away from each other not towards each other to see how close they can get.

Makes me want to fire a warning shot in front of them or at them with a flare.

No one knows if YOU are THE village IDIOT or not until YOU open your mouth and speak!!!

NO WAKE means your boat should not be putting out a wake! Look behind you! just because your going slow doesnt mean your not putting out a wake just above idle people. if your driving past a boat landing and people keep looking at you with, that look, its not because you have a cool boat or they are checking out your 17yr old girlfriend, its because your putting out a bigger wake at your “no wake speed” than you would be if you were throttled up Jack a$$. Also what makes you think its ok to pull right up to the dock cutting off 6 other freakin boats waiting to get out of the water!

The ramp is not for dumping fish guts. Arrived at Wappoo last month to launch at 6 and there was a pile of tuna and dolphin in the far lane. Luckily it was not the lane I had drawn. The boat that did back down that lane ended up spinning his wheels in the guts. Not pretty, not pleasant to smell, and disrespectful of the sport to which you participate.

I slow to no wake for DNR signs only. There are so many (**() docks on every creek and river in the lowcountry now that you can hardly get your boat on plane any more. So I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t care if someone posts a slow to no wake sign on their dock. Get a lift for your boat or deal with the fact that you built your dock on a navigable waterway.

I don’t expect everyone to no wake past my dock. Alot of people do if they see me and my boat out there though and that is very nice. If you don’t “No Wake” then please don’t plow.

The ones that realy get me are the sportys and cruisers that come by the dock or I meet in the waterway that wait to cut the engines when they are right beside me then act like they are doing me a favor.
