Hi Happy BOB well, First you said I MUST change. Now you are saying I NEED to change??? as far as the 90%of released fish die(you must have dreamed that). My statement was more on the line I need to catch 10 to keep one(thus 30 caught to keep 3 within the limits). Some of those 27 released will not make it.All the ones gut hooked will die.
By your own admission if 10% of My released fish die, that would be
a total of 5.7 fish killed to keep 3.My estimate is a little higher because I use small hooks(2/0) which makes it more likely to gut hook…
You saying that no more than 10% of the fish you release die is a tremendous declaration…Finally someone on here admits that released fish die.
Hmmm…it even has pictures. Yeap, it looks pretty simple. If there is any doubt, I just put them back. It’s not worth the effort, the fine, or the trouble.
And in case you like the video version of how to measure a fish:
That is brilliant! Using this forum to advertise your lures and guide services.I did a little research on you and you are quite the GURU on lures and redfishing. How can a rank amateur like me ever dream to criticize someone like you? Pardon my ignorance for ever questioning your vast knowledge.
As stated in my very first post on the “other” now locked topic ,the guides(commercial interest folks) and local self serving preservationists are going to scream the loudest is true to predictions.I had no idea that you well respected professionals would stoop to childish name calling. You guides surely provide a wonderful service for many many people. And I am sure the smiling happy clients is part of the reason you do it(guide).
All this “bunk” about reds being spooky, difficult to find, elusive, sparse etc etc, enhances your ego and pockets. If a weekend warrior like me can find a few honey holes without your help, well you guys should be able to do much better.Reds are so plentiful now that it would be an embarrasment for guides not to excel at catching them…You guys have each other to find the reds. You guys know the patterns and when and where they are feeding. It is your profession and judging by the reports you have many happy clients that appreciate your services.
I suppose most of you remember when it was in fact difficult and challenging to find reds.I also once considered it challenging and really enjoyed it.After participating here on this forum,I now consider the reds as nothing more than plentiful saltwater carp.
Enjoy your fantasyland! If this sounds like"sour grapes""It IS!

Look, I do appreciate the offer.I am sure (for someone like me) It would take many many days to even learn a fraction of your vast knowledge.Keep crowing, like the self indulgant proud"cock" you are
I do remember reading one of the many many articles on you and how you got started with finding the elusive red. This article stated that you observed that the successful locals were secretive about their methods…You learned to be the red guru all on your own? No sneaking around following the successful guys and copying them? You did it the hard way,or where you just born with this vast unquestionable knowledge. It does not matter since you are now the true red guru.
I am never embarassed about what I post.Is it even a remote possibility that you could be embarassed about your name calling, insults, and egoism???

have a serious question—Since reds are known to be cannabalistic(eat their own). What affect does preserving these plentiful 2 year old reds have on the fingerling population? To be more specific,
Would increasing the 23 inch plus population in the areas where fingerlings thrive result in a reduced fingerling population??Could this be a factor??
Yes, I’m guilty of wasting time reading some of this guys posts on other threads but it didn’t take me long to find what I was looking for.

“I am no expert! Took me a long time to learn how, when and where. And I fished in lots of places before trying the Charleston area.I was seldom 'skunked” but it took several years to be able to go and be confident that I would catch the limit. .Local guys that have been doing it a long time know when and where to go.Don’t expect them to share their exact spots. For example…I have a spot that is productive on the incoming tide only and a quarter mile away a spot that is sucessful on the outgiong tide only. Fish to the right or left of these spots and not much!!!
I use live or cut bait exclusively(no lures).Preferably bait caught close to the area fished. If there is no baitfish in the area why would the fish be there and feeding??
I am speaking of reds(saltwater bottom feeders). They are probably cousins to the freshwater suckers. These reds will eat almost anything and are terrific fighters, tasty also.As a bonus I usually catch a few trout, flounder, and black drum in the exact spots.
Most guys on here will tell you what to look for(structure, tides, methods, etc).Be patient and keep trying.Fish areas and methods suggested here and you will succeed!
Once you select a likely spot try it and move if they are not there. Luck!"

"I do not have a problem with how anyone fishes! I especially like you guys that catch/release. It definitely helps the population of reds…Targeting the breeders(release or not) surely can’t help the population!! I just read an article where reds spawn for about 5 weeks and spawn every 3 days with 1.5 million eggs per spawn…That’s right over a 5 week period one large female can “lay” 20MILLION or more eggs! Molesting/harming just one seems counterproductive…Then targeting them during spawning season(when they are close to shore) really
More rediculous squealing and name calling…is that all you got? Why are the squealers so desperate to make me seem like a fool??Could there be some truth in what i expose??

Hey That wont be necessary…I am done with these rants and raves.Just consider a few things in parting:
1.Those are our reds, not yours nor mine
2.Artificially propping up nature usually backfires
3.Big government begets bigger government
4.catch and release helps…protecting breeders helps more
5.I hate HSUS but we are on their agenda(along with hunters, farmers, etc)
6.Finally,lastly and with the most emphasis!!! Current rules do force me to kill more fish than I keep,
You guys enjoy the sport and have fun.
Don’t let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya! Goodbye to CFs village idiot.
