What have you seen...

Can some of you deep-sea fella’s tell me if you’ve seen any type Ducks while going/coming through the Jetties or generally nearshore areas very recently? Thanks for any input, and sorry for the ‘cross-post’.

the jetties are my outside limit, so i’m definitely not a deep-sea fella. i’ve seen plenty of common mergansers at the jetties, mostly flying in large groups at dawn. inshore/nearshore you’ll see them, scaup, buffleheads, hooded mergansers, loons and the ubiquitous cormorants. the latter are here all year long and the rest are migratory and will be gone by may. there are other species of ducks out there (black ducks…?) but i haven’t spent much time in deep water.

Picked up plenty of birds on the radar but saw no sea ducks.

saw a lot of bluebills and what i would assume was lesser scaulp, 5-7 mile’s off of fripp

red-breasted merganser, bufflehead, scaup, a few scoters. Haven’t seen any eiders this year but haven’t been looking for them; there’s one hanging around the Folly pier supposedly.

I hear there are huge flocks of ducks at the grillage. I read it in the “discussion” forum. That’s where all the duck ‘reports’ are. charlestonfishing.com/ducks

that would be the same bird…but spelled scaup.

but the scoter are sitting in 30-40 foot of water.

while there may be some bluebills out there, i think most of what you are seeing are surf scoters.
