What I learned on the flats today

  1. I can cast a long way, but my accuracy sux.
  2. In thick grass, no fly is weedlees.
  3. Big Tailing reds make my cast go all to hell.
  4. Sheepshead tail too.
  5. Casts are free, if you’re not sure, why not cast to it and find out.
  6. I’m very effecient at spooking fish.

:smiley::smiley: thats some good stuff right there. Keep plugging away at it.I dont think you can ever get to good with the flyrod. I still have alot of learning to do myself.

Again definately a great post! Makes ppl laugh.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahah:smiley::smiley::smiley:
True dat to all those things. Those sheepies will trick you untill you get within 10 feet of one and can see the bars. Keep at it.

Cheer up-as long as I’m out there, you’ll never be the worst.

Ok, I’ve mentally recovered from last nights debacle, and headed out again. Light winds, and a high tide. Should be a good one.

Titeloops are you sure you weren’t just giving a report after you were watching me!!??

“We don’t have a plan and we’re stickin to it!”

What I learned today.

Redfish do not like a copperhead landing on their nose.

However, did manage 1 red, a few trout, and a grouper. yeah, a grouper. Thats a first for me. Got some great pics of a tailer giving it hell. I’ll try and load em tomorrow.

does anyone have a fly that tailing sheeps will hit? I’ve found a flat that has held a few reds and about 50 sheeps the last 2 days.

Thank you titeloops.

I really thought I was the only one who is uterly incompetent!!!

Makes me feel better knowing that it doesn’t always end up being a mag cover everytime people see a red tail!

I have gotten two sheepshead to take a fly and both ate a rattling shrimp pattern. They are very spooky if you havent yet figured that out. Both fish I presented the fly 6-8 in front of in very clear water…minimal strip to get there attention and let them do the rest! Both swam over to the fly, tipped up like a permit and began to swim away w/ the fly. One spit the fly after a 20 ft run and the other broke off after a 20 ft run! Best of luck!!!

I have been a fly fisherman for over 35 years and I have learned a lot about the sport during that span of years. I have decided that fly fishing and or fly casting is a lot like mathematics: it is something that can never be fully learned.

Time on the water and try to learn from your mistakes are the best teachers.
