It was in the net.
I am fragile. Not like a flower. But like a bomb.

Needle fish, very common round here, you see a lot while gigging.
Could be a pipefish too. They look similar to needlefish.
I probably should have waited on barbawang,he’ll let us know the reel deal, that’s just what I used to call em.
I heard they make good bait but have yet to try it
I’d say what was in the net was not much of anything.
I’m like Sman, looks like a needle fish. Maybe like Big Jim said… a pipe fish? If it had a jaw like a gar it isn’t a pipe fish, they have small mouths like a sea horse.
We used to occasionally catch needlefish around jetties in the Chesapeake Bay, and some of them would be 12" long. They do have little teeth like Fred67 said. They’re annoying as they would attack flies or small lures, and baits, often just grabbing them, but not really getting hooked. I don’t think anyone actually tried to catch them. I had also heard they can be used for bait, but never tried it.
And yes, Pipefish are in the family with Sea Horses, and do have very small mouths. I think that many folks mistake them for Needlefish.
Y’all said pipefish. Never heard of them before. Google can be a wonderful thing. That’s pretty cool learn something everyday.
Pretty sure that’s what it was.you can even see in my picture he’s got kind of a little bulb at the end of his beak.

Pipefish is correct, close relatives to seahorses
Nice work CF crew!
Oops, BigJim already covered that too. I was distracted by imagining Sman knocking down mud chickens from the hip with a 16ga pistol
My in-laws refer to needlefish as gar, which I learned while gigging with them. Syngnathus fuscus would be the disambiguating designation here
