What is it? Mono or Fluro?

I found a coil of what I believe is 150# line in the bottom of one of my tackle bags. The problem is I don’t know if it’s Mono or Fluro… Naturally I’m hoping it’s Fluro,…that’d be like found money. Is there any way to tell or tricks to tell the difference between the two. Thanks for the help.

hold a lighter to the end of the line. Fluoro doesn’t really burn. The melted blob at the end will be black.

mono burns and the melted blob will be somewhere between clear and dark brown ,but not black.

Put it under water and see how well you can see it compared to some mono???

This is the best way.

Fluoro won’t bulb up like mono. Remember that mono is nylon. It acts like a ski rope does when you burn the frayed end. Fluoro basically burns and turns a little black. Material more or less disappears rather than globbing up. The smell and smoke will be different. Burn a piece of known mono before you burn the coil in question, and you will see a big difference if fluoro.

It’s Fluoro! Burned the end of a piece of mono and fluoro to compare. Night and day difference. Another observation I made is that the mono crackles and gets tiny bubbles in it and the fluoro doesn’t. Thanks again for the tips! Learn something new everyday…
