Caught it in my net today. Looked like a hybrid between a centipede, shrimp and a praying mantis. Also caught a nice trout and a bunch of junk fish.

I watched a documentary about them on Discovery Channel. Fascinating for sure and all over the world. They are very powerful and can cause a lot of pain.

Hey Doug, long time since I have been on here.
You have two different shrimp confused. The mantis shrimp hurt you when they contract as the bottom edges of their shells are like razor blades. The other shrimp you spoke of are called pistol shrimp which are found here also. They snap their claws out like a whiplash and can also cause much pain.

Be extra careful when trying to put them on a hook.
