Why is it you can’t fish from the 526 bridge almost all the way to the bushy park landing?
I understand the subs but why are they being dic#$ and blocking off a couple miles?

They are nuclear subs, there are multiple ordinance magazines along that section, two loading piers for sensitive equipment and a few other things. Easy answer, they can.
Challenging them about it is really not a good idea.
I was working out there one day and they had a guy express his rights to fish where he wanted. When they brought him ashore, body cuffed and used a fork truck to dump his boat on a flat bed and haul it off, I was told that we would probably spend a week or so locked up and face several thousands in fines. Oh a he would be responsible for removing his boat from the base at his expense. They could have just as easily shot him ad been perfectly within the right.
Lol they can’t shoot you unless you’re a threat. The restricted area starts when you come out of bushy to the right and ends at Goose Creek. You can’t stop anywhere in that section. Its federal waters. You can fish yellow house and slack reach though. The area isn’t posted well which makes it tough to enforce and its been brought up. The guy that got cuffed was out of gas and a patrol boat made contact with him and informed him of the restricted area. The guy got very upset because he wanted a tow but the patrol boats are not allowed to tow him. He had a sea tow membership but was too upset to call them lol. He brought that entire situation upon himself.

Interesting. I fish Bushy in a canoe and a jon with a trolling motor, and stay in the creeks that are to the right side as you are leaving the cove at Bushy. There are signs in the grass that say “do not enter”, and I’ve always assumed that it meant stay off the land. I’ve fished up in those creeks a LOT, along with other folks. Is this part of the “no fly zone”, or do the signs specifically talk about staying off the land?
… The Cross of Christ is the anvil upon which the hammer of evil wore itself out.
The no fly is the cooper river reach, the creeks off are all good. The land, is posted to stay off of it as well. The main area is from Bravo dock just around the bend from the mouth of Goose Creek River, up to above X-ray, Zulu pier just before bushy park.
When I was a kid, my uncle used to fain engine problems and drift fish the area. It got to the level they knew him by name and would just come out and chat. That was 25 years ago.
Don’t try to go in the tributaries off Goose Creek, at least the ones facing the station. They get a little irritated

When my boat was new to me, we took a little sight seeing trip up the Cooper and there were several frigates moored at the old Navy Base docks. I was in the middle of the Cooper and turned to port to make a u-turn in the river.
My u-turn pointed me directly toward one of the frigates.
That’s when a dude with an M-16 suddenly appeared on the bow with an aggressive stance. “Oh Crap!” I turned a little harder to the left and got the heck out of Dodge.
Lesson learned. Don’t turn in the general direction of those Navy boats. It’s a bad idea.

</font id=“quote”></blockquote id=“quote”>I don’t ever make an aggressive stance against a shouldered weapon. Have made many slow cruises through the middle of Charleston Harbor and have seen guards on some of the most unassuming non-military looking vessels with guards on duty with shouldered weapons.Who were they? What were they guarding? I DIDN’T ASK!
You think it’s bad now you should’ve seen it when we still had nukes up at pomflant and used to load the subs… I spent many days leading reactionary forces of Marines that were guarding those weapons. The Navy doesn’t like you getting too close to their training reactors at pier x-ray.

Those guys that operate the guard vessels outside the training subs I think must have a pretty boring job.

lol indeed they do. I’ll speak to the patrols and get clarity on the locations you’re allowed to fish in goose creek. I know that you are allowed to fish certain areas of it, just don’t remember specifically where.

911 changed everything for the fishing in that area. I used to fish in Goose Creek, right next to the bridge at night, countless specs. Tried going in with a kayak about 1.5 years ago during the day and nearly got escorted out by a gun boat too. crazy!
Just do not come off of plane or they will come see why you did if you are in their area, as far as stopping and fishing usually if you are far enough off of the main river they won’t mess with you. Def can’t fish near that bridge although I have waited out some serious rain under it. There arePLENTY of places to fish that won’t result in a machine gun pointed at you just stay clear…

“you win some, you lose some…but nothing beats getting some!”
They deff don’t like when you break down out there. Lucky a crabber saved my ass. Now I don’t even go there.
I have them protecting all my good fishing spots so everyone stay away!
Got some clarity on fishing goose creek. You can fish past the golf course if you anchor along the left side. You can’t anchor on the ride side or middle of the creek but you can cast towards the right bank. Hope this helps anyone that wants to fish that area without being bothered.

The dashed line should mark the border between Fed land and Private/public land.
You should be able to fish anywhere inside the dashed line.
Dont argue with them. If asked to move, do so.
Remember you are dealing with 20yr old kids with heavy equipment. They are not trained to be nice and accomodating, they are trained to protect an area and you are preventing them from doing their job.
