My wife calls my weekend upproductive. I personally do not share her opinion. I told her there were a bunch of people here who would think that she couldn’t be more wrong as well. I don’t know what it is about being on the water, but it always feels familiar, safe. It’s kind of like that feeling you get when you’ve been away from the house on business for a few weeks and finally step back through the front door. Its home. Its my time alone with myself and my thoughts. Its my time alone with God. Its what keeps my sanity I believe.
My dad told me once that the most important characteristic of a good man is knowing he is blessed and acting like it. The older I get, its certainly easier to appreciate the little things. You also come to realize what a selfish immature brat you used to be. Its the little details that make life worth while. Redfish splashing around in the tall spartina, crabs climbing marsh stalks, driftwood beaten and weathered, snails in my shoes…all remind me of home somehow. And it is good.
Take time out today to appreciate the little things life has to offer. You won’t be disappointed.
Good stuff 23. I like that you take the time out to photograph what we have all experienced. I feel very much the same way as you described when I’m in the marsh. Its my church.
Not sure if anyone listens to bluegrass or gospel music but Rhonda Vincent sings a song called blue sky cathedral. I’m sure everyone of us that feels a certain something about our time in nature will enjoy it.
Couldn’t agree w/ you more. Good stuff. Does your wife ever go w/ you and try to soak it all in? Maybe she’d change her opinion if she got out there more.
My wife is not big into boating but she sure loves the water. Sitting on the dock watching the world of water go by will suck any stress out of both of us for sure.
Can I get an AMEN!!! I feel very relaxed when I’m on the water and there are times when that breeze comes up and I pull up to the grass and take a nap. I feel the harmony!

Very nice. I love that picture of David Sykes boat. I get to see that boat every week docked up across from our company house. You should contact him and get him a copy of that picture. I am sure he would appreciate it.
Great pix. Love the one of the driftwood sticking up in the air, sort of looks like a redfish tailing if you use your imagination.
Was with friends and family on a boat just cruising the Wando on Saturday afternoon (DVR my college football games). Had a beer in my hand, snacks, great company, great sites, sounds and smells. I had a weird, almost quasi-subconscious 3 second epiphany where I was truly, truly happy and felt blessed to now live here.
I remember hearing my friend SeaWest say how lucky he felt to live in this area and that simple comment has stuck with me.
My favorite is the picture with the anchor in the shells.
I get the same feeling out in the water. When I putter down the Wappoo Cut and turn out into the harbor I can feel my stress go way down. It doesn’t really matter where I’m going or if I actually catch anything when I’m out there.

Pass on his contact info and I’d be glad to do so.
That shot was a rare one on a pretty saturday in september. There were people throwing up wake down the ICW like they were in a race almost. I was just glad I was in my little boat in a creek and not on the main waterway with some of these yahoos…
I could not have said it better and I know that most on here probably feel the same way. Nature is very good for the soul. So innocent, yet so unforgiving. It makes you think.
I’d rather be a free man in my grave than living as a puppet or a slave.
