what kayak is best?

If I hunted instead of just fishing color would be a deal breaker for me too. Good luck with the search.
The Native ultimate is a good boat. I’ve only ever heard 2 complaints about them. 1 from a river runner. He was in mild swift water and got on a rock. The boat took on water and spilled him and his fishing gear.
#2 from a buddy who like to fish anywhere, anytime. He took a series of boat wakes during a downpour and spilled. The boat had about 1 1/2 inches of water in it and the wakes just washed over the gunwale.

So much water, So little time

If you really like the Native boats then look at this one. it is very similar to the Ultimate but it has scuppers

I do like the Native yaks but I love the Hobie yaks for the hands free fishing aspect. I want to get back into kayak fishing and I remember saying to myself “hell with this crap, I am getting a Hobie Mirage.” I also want to get a yak that I can use to hunt from. I would think while duck hunting that when you shoot a bird from the kayak you could peddle the yak over to the bird while holding your gu incase more waterfowl fly over. You wouldn’t have to fondle all over to get the paddle out of your hand so you could get to your gun. if that were the case then the ducks would see all of your movement and you are given away.

There’s a guy on here somewhere named Willy B…I think. Met him at BushyPark once while unloading my yak and he told me he has a yak that he duck hunts out of. Try to drop him a line and ask his expierenced opinion.

I have a 14.5 Native Magic w/rudder. It is pretty versatile, can be paddled solo or tandem. Has scuppers, anchor trolley, 5’ cajun anchor and is pretty stable although my brother figured out how to capsize it on a mtn. river. It has a gunwale rail system that you can use to bungee stuff or insert homemade rods/landing net holders. My wife sewed a slip cover for the back of the seat which has pouches for tackle box, pliers, and your favorite beverage. Easy to paddle, but a little heavy if you are carrying it by yourself. I’ve had it in some pretty big water and rough weather and I didn’t feel like I would have a problem.

how about the tried and true heritage redfish?

What do you guys hunt from your kayaks? Is there a place on the coast to go duck hunting or something? I figured having a gun out on my yak would turn the barrel rusty and pitted in a day…

Ducks, and i use an 870 express that i have painted camo. your right don’t take your best gun in the yak. I can use my 870 for a paddle if i need to tear it down clean it and use it on my next trip.

There is a fine line between fishing and standing on the bank like an idiot!!
