what kind of kayak?

Howdy folks, I have been thinking about getting into kayak fishing. I have a large powerboat and cannot get into the shallow water bays to hunt for redfish. Does anybody have some suggestions on the type of kayak I should buy? I am a big guy, 6’1" and 240lbs, and will be paddling about 1.5 miles from my boat landing. Thanks

Love my Tarpon.

I don’t think that you could go wrong with an OK Drifter.

Renix might agree with me on this.

Look Ma, No Hands!! I rented one at pawleys island last month and was very impressed!! It is a FISHING MACHINE, very well designed and seemed to be durable. I used it in the surf too.

Everybody will have their own opinion on this topic but the above has served me well. I have caught reds and trout out of the Loon 160T but I have also Duck hunted (2 Men= 400lbs + decoys+ guns+ shells), Toured around with my wife, and done an overnight trip. It is a great all arounder. In 2 years of heavy use (I mean rough) it is still in great shape. Oh yeah, I also move the seat to the middle and do all of the above alone as well.

The information provided by hardcore was thoughtful but
(talk about up a creek without a paddle)
I am also a big ol fat guy (6’1" and pushing 245)
I purchased a Ocean Kayak “Frenzy” and have no
trouble paddling my big fat butt all over the place.
Fishing creeks with this boat works fine.

Hey RichFowl, you’re a lightweight compared to me, 6’1" & 310#'s. That’s why I like my Drifter so much.

Some good suggestions…Let me throw this one in there too-The Predator…They’ve got one in stock at Ludens that you can look at (they’ve got the Loon’s too).
