My brother caught this stingray in a tidal flat that fills from drain pipes running about a half mile so this guy would have had to travel all the way through the pipes to get into the fishing spot. It doesn’t look like any type of stingray I’ve ever caught around here.
Often forms large schools offshore. Can be found in both nearshore and offshore habitats. Barb at base of tail seems to lack much venom. Been hit a couple of times. Thought to be hybridizing with the gulf species Rhonaptera brasilenesis.
