What should I spool my cardiff with?

So I’m gonna respool my cardiff with braid, should I put 20, or 30lb. braid on? Should I opt for lighter line to throw lighter weights? But I also thought 20lb. braid might be to light for my 10-25lb. rod, I’m mainly gonna be bait fishing on this rod.

20# PowerPro

Think about your fish, Stuck. Are you going to catch 20# plus? Probably not. And the 20 is like 8# equivalent. Also, what series is it? 3000 or less? 20# I bet would do you fine.

When you gonna come to another meeting with Rivermonster? We’re doing reel maintenance tomorrow night. Help you keep that Cardiff in shape!

30# won’t dig into the spool as bad as the lighter lines…

Thanks Vin, I’ll go with 20! I forgot about those meets! I haven’t been talking to rm much lately but I’ll give him a call, tomorrow’s a bad day for me though. Now that I got a kayak and can do more inshore fishing though I’ll definitely start coming again, can me and my dad come and get signed up next meet?

Absolutely. I hate you can’t make it tomorrow as we’re doing sign up for our 2nd Annual Youth tournament. No charge to the youths and prizes for all. It should be a lot of fun. I’ll PM you some deets.

My preferred line is Spiderwire EZ Braid.
Doesnt dig into the reel as bad
Had no problems with wind knots (power pro will knot up after a good amount of use and especially casting into the wind)
Is much smoother on both the rod and reel
Seems to cast better.
10lb for casting lures, 15lb for bottom fishing and live bait.
This is for inshore use.

My cardiff 4000 has been spooled with 30# PP for 7 years (respooled twice) with no issues. I use it for harbor reds, reef and small sharks, big cats and stripers up north. No problems casting, no issues with line digging in…
