I have had good luck with my Riptide 65 on my Key West Stealth but I just upgraded to a Scout 201 and the only thing it didn’t have is a trolling motor. Got any suggestions?
Thank you

80# should be good, but I always overpower on my tm. I would look into 101# or 112# 36v system. Especially with our tides and currents.
I used to have a 2012 Scout 201 Bayscout and I used the Minn Kota CoPilot 70lb and it worked great. It would run all weekend without charging. Mine was setup pretty heavy as well.

I have the 80# i-pilot on my 22’ Skeeter. It works well and only seems to struggle when strong wing and current are working in the same direction, which is unusual. Since I have room, I will probably move to the 101# if I ever replace it just to have the extra power.
One Simple Thanks!!
I really like the setup on the MK ulterra as I will be launching in our lakes by myself for the most part. Anybody got one of these?
Thanks for all the replies.

i have the MK 112/36volt ulterra mounted on my scout 231xs. i am very pleased with the performance and especially the convenience of remote control deploy/retrieve. it s also very convenient to be able to raise or lower the depth of the motor. the remote control is convenient, but i also have/use the foot control so that i can keep both hands on rod and reel. i often fish alone, so the auto deploy after launching from trailer, is theoretically, golden, as long as you remember to turn the motor on before launching, and making sure that the remote is not on the deck of the boat as it drifts away from the trailer. hasn t happened to me yet, but, give me time. i keep the remote in the truck for this reason.
the only problem i have with the ulterra system is: i have a depth finder transducer for the bow mounted unit mounted to the motor. because of the moving belt on the unit, i haven t figured out a satisfactory way to 1. keep the wire tight enough to keep it out of prop while 2. keeping it loose enough to accomodate the turning of the motor. this is especially bad when using the spot lock function when launching and or holding position when fishing. the motor doesn t recognize this problem.
as far as power choice, i had an 80# MK i pilot on a previous 23 ft bay boat and i found that to be inadequate in windy/fast current conditions. it s a personal choice but i agree that it stinks to be under-powered.
all in all, i am very satisfied with the ulterra.
Thanks again for the help. Thank you to the great boat makers in SC ! My old Stealth now lives on the Gulf in FL and I can’t wait to further trick out my " new " 201 and bring it to Beaufort. Great fishing, even greater folks!!!
