I’ve got 1/2 bushel left over from an oyster roast last night, dug on Friday. What do you do with 1/2 bushel of raw oysters?

I know it, but there are seldom any oysters left over. I’ve never tried freezing oysters, and I really dislike shucking them raw. It’s a lot like work. Can you freeze oyster stew? Can you freeze steamed oysters? I’m sure you can, but can you eat it when you take it out?

go sheepshead fishing
steamed a bit (but not open) makes shucking easier, they stay pretty good in the freezer for a couple months if you freeze them in the liquor. defrost, make stew or bread and fry.
1 big azz oyster stew! How many pints of oysters are in a 1/2 bushel? Sure you can freeze oyster stew! It’s only milk and you can freeze milk. Add the butter when you defrost it for eating!
Definitely what Easy said, although I have taken the BW route more than once!
Cracker, if I have any left over I go ahead and steam them a little harder than normal for easy of shucking. I put em in a zip lock bag and have the next morning in scrambled eggs and then freeze the rest for later omelets/scrambled masterpiece.
Sometimes I just thaw them, heat up in a little butter & old bay and put on toast like you would sardines etc.
Man, it’s time for supper… that just made me hungry!
Thank yall. I went with Easy’s suggestion and made a big azz pot of oyster stew and froze it. Will report later on it’s edibility:smiley:

Love me some oyster stew…break up enough crackers (no pun intended CL) in it to almost turn into a mush…mmm mmm delicious!

Dang Larry, now I’m wanting some oyster stew!
Or just put them back in the river where you can get them next time Larry.

Leave them in the sack and throw them off the dock with a rope attached and pull them when needed!
If I didn’t live an hour from saltwater, that would be an excellent suggestion No doubt the best possible.
