ive been wanting to try this place since last year when you all were posting alot of good posts.but…i understand that the put in is very shallow during low?how do you handle this?do you go at the beginning or so of incoming once the water is high enough or what?whtz wanted me to go last year and i had to back out at last minute.i wish i would have went now.any pointers on copahee would be appreciated.
What’s up man - how you been? Be wary of the Copahee lady she’ll leave you high and dry if you aren’t careful, just ask DolphinD! Somebody posted in an earlier post about hitting the rising tide about midway up and that is probably the only time I’ll ever go again because I’m not getting my dumba&& stuck on the mud and in another huge storm just to catch fish. Although, this means some of the fish will be moving up into the grass you should still be able to catch some fish.
im not going until you do or somebody else on here that knows it well.if you go ill be there.ive heard its spottail heaven.whtz, what about that other place down that way?whats it like.i cant remember the name.i know you went down there some.
You are talking about paradise island - it is down on the left past Copahee. It is a good spot that ALWAYS has water. I’ve caught some reds up there, one black drum and a couple of trout. I know some folks that have caught a lot of fish up that way but I have never gotten in to them very thick. I plan on changing that here directly.
no fish in Copahee:smiley:…Ironically I live in Summerville but it is where I fish the most, defiantely a learning curve to it, you can get out at low tide the creek has a hard bottom if you follow the curves just right usually enough water to push the kayak in front of you with the paddle, stay out of the the main bay at low tide unless you hit it from the midddle up to the ocean side, there are channels that run through it even at low tide but you cant vary from those lots of trial and error before the lady in black will open herself up to you.
For tides at Copahee I use this web site: http://www.saltwatertides.com/dynamic.dir/scarolinasites.html
and select Moores Landing, it seems to work for me. I’m looking to hit Copahee this weekend, the tides don’t look too bad for Sat and Sun, Friday might require an early start.
Let me explain…I live about a mile from the Copahee throw-in (off Gadsenville Rd.)if that is what you are referring to. You can not even put a kayak in without some serious dedication to pluff mud 2.5 hours within a low tide. Anything after that is fair game with a kayak; however you will have to stick to the main channels until just over half tide. Lots of trout in that immediate area but I have yet to catch a red. For reds I go to Paradise. You can put in at Paradise and there are plenty of flats to work on a normal high tide with gold spoons for reds along the left bank (headed towards the harbor). Hope this helps.
I respectfully disagree. I’ve fished there 1/2 dozen times and as long as you are an hour on each side of the low tide, I feel you will be ok. (smaller window on exteme tides/ west wind)
Reds and trout were there for me.
There’s only 4 and ½ minutes of crappy fishing per tide and that’s with spring or ebb tides. When I see one of the many, Many, MANY skeletal remains of unfortunate kayakers stuck in pluff mud, who missed the 4 and ½ minute window,……I think to myself… “I really should be fishing at Paradise”.
So please, for the sake of your family, friends and loved ones PLEASE fish at Paradise. (or anywhere else for that matter)
By the way some member of this forum are full-time residents of the Shady Mountain Insane Asylum, so don’t believe their “wild claims” of Redfish in that lifeless death trap called Copahee Bay.
Soooo…Willy, if you do go against my advice and fish Copahee this weekend, I’ll be there in a yellow Yak Are you thinking of fishing there this weekend?

I was fishing in one of the main channels in Copahee last summer sitting side saddle casting, swung my feet back up into the kayak to change flies and no sooner felt a slight bump on the bottom of the yak and a big swirl on both sides of the yak, nothing ever came up to take a breath so my feet stayed inside the rest of the day…
