What to use...

What’s yalls personal favorite flies on the flood tide?

I have had success with merkin crabs about the overall size of a quarter.

Far better it is to dare mighty things to win glorious triumphs even though checkered with failure, than to take ranks with those poor spirits who never enjoy much nor suffer much because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.

Luke did you go in your kayak today?

dupre spoon fly. you can work it at different speeds, depending on what the fish are doing

haha well just wanted to see what yall were having success with

thanks for the advice…i will try em out on the next flood tide

Spoon fly = Oxymoron

Merkin/toad-like crab patterns are hard to beat.

Trying to get alook at the Duprees spoons and found this:
www.orlandooutfitters.com/online-store/product.asp?P_ID=691

I hear those spoon Dupree spoon are pretty spendy.
I would like to tie some, but have no idea how to get that spoon shape.
Couple questions:
-What color combos do you folks thing work best?
-Anyone know how that spoon back is formed?
-Are there any easy to tie variations?
-And just wondering-whatever happened to the copperhead? Seemed like last year people were touting it as something reds could not refuse. Personally, my experience is that any fish can refuse any bait at any time, especially if offered by me. Not sure why I keep trying.

Many thanks for any ■■■■■■■■.

I thought EVERYONE used a Mad Mikes special?

I have seen the spoon pattern sheet before but those fake fingernail flys are crazzzzzyyyyyyyyy! I have to try those.

Mad Mikes Copper Crab. Haven’t seen a fish refuse a well presented one yet. I caught over 40 in the grass last season, of which many were on a gold or copper dupree. Unfortunately work has severely inhibited my time aflat this year, but of the ten thus far, all but two were on the MM Crab, mind.

most productive is probably a small toady fly with color depending on light/water conditions. My favorite is a weedless floating shrimp gurgler. I would much rather hear/see them slurp it off the top than just come tight on a subsurface fly.

using Spoon flies and those made with just flash material seems sorta cheatin to me, but of course they work.

Clouser1, those links are excellent.
I’m with TyOneOn, the fake fingernails…brilliant! Guarantee I will be cranking a few of them out. Thanks much.

Maybe you could explain this sometime? I promise I'm not trying to start something. Just never understood the problem or difference.

Feathers and furr??? I like to catch fish IMOP spoon fly is not cheating

Maybe that’s the thing about sports fishing. The better you get, the hard you want to make it on yourself. Sign of a good sportsman I think. I would love to be able to get reds to look up take topwater flies.

Seems more like fishing with hardware to me. Nothing against it, they catch the hell out of fish. :cheers

They will crush floating flies as long as you feed em while they are sliding (between bouts of tailing).

Spoon flies always remind me of a fish scale. I'm pretty sure you have seen a tarpon scale before?

If you get rid of the hardware; steel hook, lead eyes, epoxy glue, polyester thread, mylar flash… well, you get the point. Like I said. Not messing with anyone. I just never hear a good reason not to use them.

To show that I have my own prejudice against some material, I never use those gurgle shrimp. Can’t bring myself to fly fish with piece of foam.
