Put in at Bushy Park and went down river, caught a spottail, a few trout and then two of these red eye bass. Looked similar to a small mouth bass. Any idea?
…Redeyed Bass (Micropterus coosae). Don’t notice any bars so probably not a Shoal Bass (Micropterus cataractae). Smallmouth would have noticeble side bars as well. Looks a bit long in the head to be a Rock Bass (Ambloplites rupestris). Of course I have be wrong before.

That’s just a largemouth bass. It looks nothing like a redeye bass, eye color has nothing to do with species ID.
That there is a Micropterus Cannabis (Stoned Bass)…

The majority of bass I’ve ever seen with red eyes were Smallmouths, but I seriously doubt those waters would support them. Likely too warm and perhaps too much salinity!LM will tolerate a certain amount of brackish water, but SM’s rarely will.
I have also however seen a few LM bass with red eyes, so agree with bioguy. It’s a LM bass.
I’ve had red eyes before!

Large mouth bass…

Large Mouth Bass.
Bushy has been producing some pretty good ones. This years best was 22" 6+lb. Didn’t have a scale with me.
Lots of little 11-14".
I think something shifted this year. Last years redfish holes are now LM bass holes.
