I have an F25 Yamaha motor that I’m not using and want to buy a boat to put it on. I want a Jon Boat type boat, something that is flat bottomed! My question is, what would be the largest size boat I could expect to get any performance from with this motor!
my 25 merc 4 stroke pushes my 13 whaler about 30 mph just for reference. Its a very light boat but I have it weighed down with a bunch of crap

Thanks Optiker! Yeah, you have it loaded down with big Azz trout! I want to get a little oomph, without WOT! It’s always nice to be able to kick in the afterburner if needed! That is a nice trout[:0]
My buddy has one on his 15ft triton, pushes about 22mph with a light fishing load. Triton is a heavier jon boat (plus rhino lined) and the 4stroke 25 Yamaha doesn’t have quite as much “get up and go” as 2stroke, but sure is a lot quieter. Look for a light weight fiberglass one or aluminum.
Four Sons Marine makes a pretty slick basic skiff in Fair Bluff.
Thanks’ scdiver!
I have a 14’ fiberglass jonboat with a 20 hp Mariner and it goes as fats as I want it to.

I was thinking maybe an Alumaweld or something like that! Something I could set up for skinny water and gigging!
I have been researching Sea Arks in the 15-16 foot range with intent to power with a 25 Etec for that exact same purpose.

probably the biggest you’d want to go is a 16’ x 48" jon boat.
I’ve got a F25 on a 1542 War Eagle flat bottom. Ran about 29 on the GPS with the stock prop. Just put a SS on her but haven’t had a chance run it yet. I love the motor except it is really heavy.
Just want to try to get the most bang for the buck! Y’all can understand that! I don’t want overpower or under-power the boat! Just
reach or find a good medium!
14’ to 15’ jon would be good… Will be underpowered if you go to most 16’ers.

I love the F25 setup on the 1542. I definitely wouldn’t put it on a bigger boat and I would be scared to put it on a smaller boat due to the weight of the engine. I was looking at a F20 when I bought mine and am now glad I didn’t go that route. Definitely wouldn’t want any less power than the F25.
Whatever uyou end up with, I vote you name it the SS Bolbie-Fritz and you guys go gigging and makeup.

1648 to 1652 is about the largest I would run with a 25
hairball

Thanks Chris. I have seen your Alweld listings and been by the store a couple times and quickly looked at them before I was serious…and by serious I mean the wife knows I have looked, but there is no guarantee of acceptance:smiley:. They do look very well built and would add them to the short list.

I ran an f25 high thrust yamaha on a 1448 flat bottom jon boat and would run 27-28mph.Got a 1648 weldbuilt on order and am putting another f25 on it.Great little motors.
Sell it to me. My project is drawing to completion and I am in the market for a four stroke 20-25 h.p. for it.
