I have a 12 yr old saltwater series yamaha, and I noticed some black rubber contaminants in the bowl of the on engine filter. It hasn’t been changed in 4 years since I have a racor in front of this filter that I change yearly. I have not noticed any small rubber pieces in the racor that I drain regularly. I routinely use ethanol gas but ALWAYS stabilize it with startron year round. The engine runs fine except 2-3 mph off the top end from when new.
Would you:
1)preemtively replace all lines from the tank back including those on the engine ($$$$), or
2)replace only the lines from the tank to the racor, as well as the line from the racor to the on engine filter (a lot less expensive).
I have a feeling the degradation is probably occurring in the primer bulb between the racor and on engine filter.
Thanks
If there isn’t anything in the racor filter I don’t think you need to replace the line from the tank to the racor. The problem is from the racor to the engine. Being a boater that is always on a tight budget, I would just replace the line from the racor to the engine.

replace teh lines from the tank to the filter on the motor
shouldnt be to hard to do, or cost very much as its just fuel line you can buy in bulk.
PLEASE get the Blue ethanol rated fuel line
do not use the grey shiny stuff that they claim is ethanol rated

Those grey lines are junk. I worked on a friend’s 60hp evinrude that he just replaced his lines about 6 months ago with a gray west marine 65$ hose. The inner liner was flaking off and plugged up the filter before the carbs solid. It said it was 100% ethanol approved. Total bs.

Where do you get the blue line and what brand is it? I have some A1 lines that are black, but not the blue kind… Thanks

quote:Please elaborate on the shiny grey fuel line that is rated for above deck applications and ethanol use. Does it just degrade quickly on the outside from the sun, or does it cause an issue with the motor from interior degradation. I unfortunately replaced my fuel line with this not too long ago and am wondering if this is a replace it before the next trip issue or can it wait a week or two until I get the proper hose. Either way that stinks because it wasn't cheap.

replaced line from tank to motor an cost less than $24.00
got fuel line napa
The fuel line between the racor and engine was replaced with OEM line from Yamaha. It is gray (not shiny) with a red stripe, is this the bad stuff??? It held up for 12 years on the original motor. I couldn’t find the blue line.
