Let me know if they have an extra sheet you won’t need. I could use a 4x8 piece at $55.

I wouldn’t spay the bottom, too nice of a paint job. Plus I think that kind of coating would create a lot of drag. It will probably still leak even if you do spray it. Loose rivets move and would break the coating. Like you said, riveted boats leak. It won’t hurt anything, doubt it would even leak enough to make the bilge pump run. The original shakey used to take on a good 50 gallons of water per trip. Although I guess you wouldn’t want to model your boat after shakey.

What ever you chose to spray make sure it is not gasoline reactive! I used a undercoating to seal my alum gas tank before installing and found any spilled gas ate up the coating an made a h of a mess in the buildge. Good luck on the rebuild!! I painted the interior of a john boat I shrimped out of with a white koolseal compound and it worked like a top and took out all the leaks and did a lot to sound deadden cant rember the brand.
Murrymaker, just go to West Marine or whereever and buy a tube of good ol’ 5200 marine sealant. Clean around the rivets really good and apply a little glob of the 5200. Wet your finger & smooth it out, put a piece of duct tape over it, then let it cure. I did it to the bottom of a 12’ jon boat that I owned several years ago, and I did’nt have problems with leaks for about 4 yrs. The duct tape wore off but the 5200 stayed in place & worked like a charm.

Before I start typing this: I am in search of at least 1 but preferably 2 boat cushions. They don’t have to be pretty. Just be 13-15" wide by 40-53" long. Missed the ones i was bidding on on ebay while offshore…
With it basically raining every afternoon/evening for the last couple of weeks I have basically done absolutly nothing to the boat. But hey Labor Day weekend was coming up and just knew I was gonna be a busy bee…
But while making my rounds on the web thursday night I realized Black Sea bass was closing and the oceans were gonna be flat…The boat could wait…
Left friday afternoon to fish pretty much all day Sat. But left Beaufort at a decent hr on Sunday to get back to do some work on the boat. Traveled home under a beautiful sky. As I entered my neighborhood here come the rains…bummed… but there is still tomorrow.
Up and ready to go this morning but the rain had me in stop and go mode pretty much all day but did get a little done.
Added some more support here. The pvc board had a little more flex in it than wood but weighed about 1/2 as much so adding a little more support was my option. It looks like i added a ton of wood but i only added 3 2x4’s. I just ripped them…
I was going to paint the ribs to add some contrast from the carpet, but once I got to cleaning them they looked way to good to paint. So my contrast on the boat will be the aluminium.
Since I am running so far behind, I almost started cutting corners. thankfully common sense kicked in and I did the right thing. This was the “box” with all the relays and soforth for the tilt/trim. I thought "hey, it works, why fix something that isn’t brok
Haven’t really kept up with updating this thread, but here are some pics to where it is to date.
Decided to go with carpet on the floor versus a textured paint job. $ and time it would take to to make the floor look how i wanted it to was just too much. Some people dont like a carpeted boat, but i have pretty much fish one most of my life.
TM fit pretty good. Hoping it wont be in the way of the top going on.
For some reason the boat had 1157 style bulbs in the nav light holes. Those had to go. Figured they drained way to much juice on a all night fishing trip. Grabbed some 197 style light connectors and slipped some little LEDS in them. They werent as bright as the big bulbs but looks fine and will work better in the long run.
Still have some work up front to do as well as making bilege access but getting much closer. May get enough done this week to take it out this weekend…

Good work Chip. You are making that into one fine looking fishing machine.
Looks real good, it you ever want to take a break and fish give me a call. Or are you already fishing in it?

Have been out in it twice. Once just to mess around and run the motor some cause it had not been run in a month or so and then again 2 Saturdays ago. Went out with my buddy and our youngins for about 2 hr or so to let the kids reel in some fish.
Going this Sunday to fish it hard for the first time. Well that is the plan. May get out sat too, but we’ll see…

Looks great. I love that style of hatch. What kind is it and where did you get it? Mine are warping and leak water, I would love something with a real hinge made out of metal.

Its a teak isle product. Its actually a glove box compartment i think. Its got a shelf and all in it. Craigslist. They are pretty pricey. Think that one runs like 200 or so, but very well made. You can buy them online from teak. Think they redirect to boatoutfitters.com or somethink like that, but Craigslist and ebay are much cheaper.

How do you like working with that PVC board so far? Seeing the interior work you’ve done, I think I might like my john boat a lot more if I cover the bottom and have it actually be flat. I sure the day will come when me or one of the kids trip on one of the ribs and takes a spill. Did you have a floor in your old boat?
