Cograds on the new boat, hope it catches as many fish as your old one!
Nice set up, hope to see it on the water soon. You gona take rodholders and electronics of the old boat?
Nice open, roomy boat. That will be fun to get fixed up for striper fishing. Good luck with it!

Looks awesome!!! Your Jon boat is a fishing machine, can’t wait to see what you do with this one.
Congrats Chip! Now the fun begins setting it up like you want it.
Looks like a striper machine in the making. I don’t think you will have any trouble at all with your trolling motor on there.

Love the forward console. What a sweet command center. As much as I like my center console for saltwater fishing, I would much prefer a side console close to the bow for trolling. All that open space in the back will be nice. Looks like a nice boat for double anchoring with 5 people and about 10 cut bait rods as well. And now the fun begins. Looking forward to your documentation of the evolution.

That’s a nice big boat, Chip. I like the inset nav lights in the bow. I can’t wait to see it rigged out. With where you go in your current boat, I expect to see some pics of the new one out at the edisto banks.
Looks like a good one. If you need anything aluminum-wise, let me know. Maybe do a trade for some depth finder tutoring/fishing.

Bob I have always heard you did good work and already had you in mind. I do have a million plans running in my head for this boat and they include some aluminium work, but will def give you a hollar when i am ready for it.
picked it up today and took her out for a spin. I love it; but it is WEIRD driving up front. Def taking some getting used to. Ran like you would want any boat to do so. actually set in one spot for 10+ min just to see it idle and it never missed a beat…
Annnnnnnnd we start the dirty work…thinking of sealing the entire bottom from the inside. Any suggestions of what to use? Anyone ever thought to rhino line the inside, maybe just below the waterline…???
And now time to rebuild…
My Xpress HB-22 came with the floor completely covered with something similar to Rhino in white with sparse black flakes. I love it. It’s easy to clean and doesn’t burn bare feet in the hot summer sun. Whether you go with marine board or aluminum for the floor, I’d recommend the liner. We are talking $'s, but new or old, a boat is simply a hole in the water we throw our wallets into:sunglasses:
I redid a 23 fotter, new plywood and stingers! Glassed all seams and joints, sprayed the entire interior, and deck with black rinoliner, then painted all with white 2 part polly paint. After 8 yrs still looks new! If I had your boat I think I would install a center console! would ride much better in rough water. Would be easy to install conduit under floor now!
The whole point of buying this boat was the forward console. CC’s just eat up soooo much space. What do they really do? hold your drink and steering wheel…lol…
Don’t know why I didn’t think of this stuff before but, I use this stuff at work a lot. http://www.chemicar.com/coatings_tekton_gravelguard.php We use it to seal metal roofs we have riveted on. Don’t see why it wouldn’t work on boats. Have a request in for a price on some cans from the distributor…hope they will sale to an individual. If not maybe I can buy some through work. Think the boss man said they only pay like 10-15$ a can if that.
are you talking about as a floor or are you wanting to use it to keep the boat from leaking?
Wellcraft V-20 sportfish with a 200 Evinrude
Its a riveted aluminium boat, its gonna leak…lol…so yea just to put a good seal on the rivets before i go back with a floor. The more i think about it i don’t think i am gonna go back with a wood floor. On my delivery route i have come to know alot of people and may have a contact to some type of polymer/fiber/composite material that won’t ever rot. will check into it on monday.
I wouldn’t bother trying to seal the inside of the boat to stop leaks. To stop a leak it will take a lot of coats, that will be a lot of money, and/or add extra weight. that is if it even stopes the leaks. Not to mention the time to prep everything properly. Fill it up with water, mark the rivets that leak and replace them before you put your floor in. Then go with a good composite or aluminum floor. Just my .2.
However, if you do decide to coat the inside, aircraft paint remover and steel wool will make quick work of the glue/paint removal. And then A/C coil cleaner will do a good job prepping the surface before the coating.
You planning on a permanent baittank plumbed through the floor or something removable?
Also, have you thought about adding some spray foam under the floor once you get it put in. Would probably add a lot of noise reduction and make it safer out in the big water.
INDIGO BAY 170- 90 JOHNSON
Talked to the shop boss this morning and can get the gravel guard for 10$ a can. I may just spray the outside bottom just for a little more sealant. It doesn’t leak bad at all, so just a coat or two at the most may stop it completely. That will be much easier than trying to clean and prep the inside.
For the floor/ storage boxes i will be using a pvc board. Found a heck of a deal on some surplus they are trying to get rid of for 55$ per 4x8 sheet. Will still put carpet over it. They said in direct sun it may try to warp a little and that just a thin layer of carpet will stop it.
