What’s 24" + 30" + 27" + 0" = A Nice Day

These were from yesterday.

Zero inches was for the 4th Red of the day that I kindly released 10 feet from the kayak.

nice fish stinky fingers !

Sounds like an awesome day. Care to enlighten us on bait, presentation and general location?
I landed a 8" flounder and catfish today:frowning_face:

great job Stinky!

Nice fish! Looks like you’ve got your spots dialed in.

I fish when you’re at work.

are you fishing artificals or bait? Great pictures.

Hey Guys (Shallowskiff & Cutmullet)

Promise not to tell anyone else about these directions :sunglasses:

I’ve been having most my luck this season on falling tides, last year I like rising tides….go figure. Here’s what I do.

Step 1) Put the “Electric Chicken” in your tackle box.
Step 2) Put the “Space Guppy” in your tackle box.
Step 3) Make this rig for ALL your rods. Slide a Bobber-Stopper on to 10 pound Power Pro line which is on your reel, slide a 8 mm bead on to the Power Pro, slide one of the small Bobber-Stopper beads on to the Power Pro (the 8 mm bead prevents the smaller Bobber-Stopper bead from going through your rod tip), thread the Power-Pro through a weighted sliding bobber, tie 6 foot of 40 pound mono to the 10 pound Power-Pro using a Double Surgeon’s knot (http://www.animatedknots.com/indexfishing.php), 1/3 of the way down the leader material tie a Single Surgeon’s knot ( http://www.animatedknots.com/indexfishing.php), push this loop though the eye of a 3/0 circle hook and then over the circle hook to secure it, 2/3’s of the way down the leader material tie another Single Surgeon’s knot ) for the second 3/0 circle hook and secure it and at the end of the leader material attach a small ¼ ot ½ ounce sinker (the small tear drop type with a brass swivel built into the sinker, the package doesn’t list he actual weight).
Step 4) put a live bait (shrimp or mudder) on the top hook and a half a frozen finger mullet (head or tail) on the bottom hook.
Step 5) the last and most important step - toss this double bait rig to where the redfish are. :stuck_out_tongue:

Note: If you haven’t used them, circle hooks are much better for the fish than J-hooks, circle hooks usually hook the fish in the corner of the mouth, you don’t really “set” circle hooks like J-hooks, talk to you local bait/tackle store about how to use them or come to the next C.R.A.P. meeting. Another nice thing about circle hooks is they are less likely to hookup on the bottom.

Hope that helps.

Lets’ me

Stinky Fingers you are very helpful. Do you want the sinker on the bottom? What is the average depth you fish this rig in? How big a float do you use 3" 4" or larger? Do you work the banks or do you anchor? Can’t wait to try it. I live in NC and planning a trip down in Aug to the Beaufort area and will let you know how I am do.

[font=Comic Sans MS][blue]Hey ShallowSkiff

You’re welcome…If I had known you were from NC I would not have responded…just messin’s with ya, I’m from FL orginally :stuck_out_tongue:.

Do you want the sinker on the bottom? Yes</font id=“red”>. What is the average depth you fish this rig in? 6" to 4 or 5 feet, I would guess I get more hits in 1 to 3 feet</font id=“red”>. How big a float do you use 3" 4" or larger? Nope… 3" to 4" is what I use</font id=“red”>. Do you work the banks or do you anchor? Yes I anchor, the anchor helps with maintaining the hook-up, unless you have to chase the fish which I have to do with some of the larger Reds. If you’r are exploring a new area and you’re not catching fish and you see or hear (think splashin’ sounds of sometin chasin’ sometin) no reason to stay…then move to a new spot even if it’s a 100yds away… I have about 5 to 10% of my hits come before I get my second rod out at a new spot…move to find fish.</font id=“red”>

Why you’re heading to Beauford to fish??? Are you hitting Hunting Island State Park???

I lived in Beaufort for a few months in 2003 and that was when I caught my first redfish. I was in love. I have fished alot, for largemouth bass over the years and even fished local tournaments.
I have almost totally forgotten about Largemouths.
Sold my bass boat and purchased a 19’ carolina skiff. Put a jack plate on the back so I can run through the shallow stuff and I all I do is dream about fishing on the coast. About once a quarter I leave western part of NC where I live at 4:00 am drive to Beaufort and fish all day and then drive back.
I plan to do that on the 16th of August.
I have not got it figured out yet. I usually fish with artificals and no live bait.
Hunting Island is great. Just took a day off this past Tuesday and drove down for the day with my wife. No fishing just time with the bride. Took Pictures, walked on the beach, sat in the water park in Beaufort the headed home.
Do you ever fish in the Beaufort area?
I have never fished from a kayak but back in my college days kayaking was offered as a PE class and I took it. I about drowned the first Time I rolled over. We had the skirts.
I could use this skiff to haul some kayaks back into some remote areas one day if you have some friends that are interested.
How do you catch your bait? How do you keep it alive on a kayak?
