What's Happening??

I opened CF this morning and started seeing pop-up ads. Also, when I open any post, certain words are high-lighted and when you run your cursor over the word, a little box pops up that lets you search that word. It says “Ad by BuyNsave”. What happened and how can I get rid of this?

Thanks anyone!!

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

You have a malware on your browser that is usually some sort of extension or add-on. Google around, usually you can figure out how to remove those/uninstall them.

I highly recommend you also run something like Malwarebytes Anti-Malware at this point.

I actually figured it out. My youngest son got it on there. I uninstalled it, reset Mozilla and all is well. Have added an ad-blocker and updated my anti-virus. Man, that sucked.

Yeah, that’s the ticket DF! Blame it on the little kid watching Sponge Bob. We all know how you got it:stuck_out_tongue:

http://www.superantispyware.com/ is a good program to run every once in a while.

Might be a good idea to put the computer in safe mode (F2 or F10 on startup…forget which) and look at the Control Panel/Uninstall programs. Uninstall unwanted programs, you should be able to tell which ones look suspicious by their names…might be ad-click plus or some such name. Run superantispyware. Run antivirus program. Delete recycle bin. Restart.

You have to be careful when letting some programs update, like Java or Flash - they’ll have a little box checked that all them to add stuff like a tool bar add-on which is spyware add on you give permission to. They’ll self install and you have to uninstall them in safe mode or else they’ll return. Effers.

one of my Daughters Professors wanted her to use Fox Fire, she put it on my computor and her lap top. It loaded all kinds of unwanted programs with pop ups like you described. After unloading it all and updating McAfee all good.

Firefox always gave me the most problems with having unwanted crap suddenly appear (extensions/etc). We would occasionally use some of the coupon apps you find online, and discovered that many of them are designed to download and install other extensions without authorization.
