I am coming to your area in a few weeks and I hope to get in some fly fishing around Pawley’s Is.
I am bringing a full box of stuff, from deceivers, to schminnows, clousers (chart/white, pink/white, and a couple other colors, and some tarpon bunny type flies)
do you guys think these will work around jetties and in shallow waters?
should I bring an intermediate sinking line as well?
Contact Hutch through this site (PAWLEYSI) - he should be able to let you know what’s working around Pawleys right now. He took a hiatus for awhile, but I’ve seen him posting recently so he should be able to help out.
there are not many FF here. the faves are red fish at high tide walking the flats , but we dont have too many reds. there are some guys who dredge clousers at N end for specs with success. they have been getting some topwater trout action at the n end too on spinning/spookstuff. the best walking is at the n end. s end is soft sand(tough walk) but has some pretty mud banks. sounds like you got the stuff except maybe poppers and of course the chucky crowd loves those rattlin crabs.
depending on how mamy weeks til tou come ypu might be able to sight cast clouseres in the surf to reds. an older guy from Pa did well in Aug a couple years back.
we dont need no reservations we dont need no cruise control
thanks for the info. I have tied up some merkins, but I want to make sure I am in the color scheme. I have a tan body merkin with olive hackle pinchers about the size of a half dollar piece.
Can you clue me in to the colors for the area?
Hopefully I can get a couple of shots on a red on flat. Thanks again for the info, and any more is appreciated.

my favorite is a olive body with brown and pink accents. as far as flash, gold, copper, and rootbeer would be my go-to’s.
pawleys, you comin down monday??
i use a pink and chartreuse clouser nonstop in the south end creek, wade out and fish the drop offs around the bottom section of the inlet the flounder eat em up but the reds and trout are usually pups, copper like scotty said is always good, and if you’ve got the intermediate line try throwin a small, say size 4 orange fly for the pompano in the surf, theres some big ones around between the pelican inn and the south end. Good luck, its usually a little bit of a chore to get one on the fly up there but always well worth it, thats where i caught my first saltfish on a fly back in the day.
thanks again guys,I appreciate the help and the color info for sure. I am not coming up until the 15th of June. I live in the Atlanta area. I will bring the Int Line for sure.
Thanks again and anymore info can only help the cause:smiley:
