Whats so special about a 200 qt cooler?

This has never made any sense to me. You can find a 100 qt marine cooler for $100 all day long and the cheapest you can find a 200 qt is $375-400. What is so special about that extra 50 qts that quadruples the price of the cooler? It is madness…

“Marine” is just a code word for “turns yellow.”

You can find 120’s for under $75.00 if green or blue will work for you.

Because carrying a full 200 qt cooler includes a free back workout program for 4 people.

people that need 200 qts are likely gonna have a bigger boat which means more money- 100qt has to be reasonable for average joe to buy for his average 19-20 ft boat- 200qt just goes to a different level and the luxury tax reminds you of that- if feel your pain on the price but keep your eyes open b/c so good deal do happen on the bigger coolers

An extra 50 qts? [:0]

the price jump from 100qt-200qt is a bit steeper.
most 200qt i have ever seen dont leave the boat… they are basically kill boxes. and if you price a “coffin box/kill box” a 200qt is cheap

so far the cheapest big cooler i have found is the pelican250qt and its priced in the 500-600 range…
grizzly 150 is about 470
yeti 110 is 499 but thats on the small side… the120 is 549 and the 160 is 670

i tend to agree with above when you start playing with the coolers past 100qt your not talking about a 20ft bay boat… your talking about a 25-30ft the price reflects the consumer who is willing to pay… its also a bit of supply and demand… how many 150+qt do they sell the machining process and materials do take a decent chunk i guess…

if you want good prices on the stuff you have to go to where they are made.

Thats what i kinda figured. Those bastards are smart. You would think someone would like rubbermaid or igloo would offer a lower price option but i guess not. Guess im spending $500 on a fish box

Careful who's ego you stroke!!! Some people don't need it.

But, I am not talking about the process of filling the cooler. I’m talking about the process of carrying it back up the dock when it’s full!!!

I remember when you could get a 54 qt igloo marine cooler at West Marine for $35. Now, you are looking about TWICE that much for the same product.

How much ice do you think it would hold? The answer is not 200 qts.

Charleston City Papers Best Guide of 2014

It could be if it melted? At 2.085 lbs per Qt X 200 = 417 lbs. That’s 2 or 3 back rubs!

Really Old, that’s that New Math.

I bought a used 272qt Icey Tek from a commercial guy who switched up for a 440qt cube for his boat. I got it for a few hundred bucks but that was over 6 years ago. We were running through the 120qt coolers as fish boxes in the front of the boat.

Keep an eye on craigslist and other boating forums. It shipped from Florida for about $45.

You pretty much can’t destroy them but as others have said, they are a pain to move and it stays in the bow of the boat.

Its a great kill box if you have the room, I think it is about 60x22x24 inches.

The only “nice” cooler I have because I rarely have to move it.

Good luck in your search.

Try craigfind.

I built one 48"x 48" 22" deep out of marine plywood and fitted with 2’’ foam and sheet alum. liner to fit behind the consold of my 23’ rebalo used as a seat and when pulling a shrimp net. it will hold 4 baskets plus ice!
