- Just got into the kayak business. If anyone needs anything from boats to paddles let me know and ill take care of ya. I am a dealer for perception, dagger, and mad river but am probably going to pick up some other brands sometime in the near future.
Dude… scroll back a few pages this question is as old as this site… Long story short… 1. Try as many boats as possible 2. Pick the one YOU liek and works for YOU… I love my Tarpon but toher people don’t… Perception, wilderness systems, OK, native, the list goes on and on… all of them make good fishing yaks but the one that works for you is just that a personal chioce…

Im not new to kayaking just kayak fishing. Ive had a heritage, 2 pungos, and a couple tandem kayaks, some ocean kayaks, and some costco cheapos. Ive got the bug now though with wanting to get certified and getting better equipment. Who is a heritage dealer around here. The website doesnt show any in charleston but that cant be right.
Can someone send me links to the kayaking forums around charleston and sc.
Any good kayaking websites to soak in some knowledge?
I have a Search 13 and for me, its great.

Hey now, I resemble that remark! or actually, I designed that remark! let me guess, $199 on sale, reg $229 with carlise paddle?, Mainstream “Jazz” . That was it’s original “niche”,to mass merchandisers to get more people into the sport cheaply and then them getting higher end yaks eventually. Sucess!

Check out Crow Wing Kayaks. I have a 960. Been using in ICW, flats, lakes and shallow, rocky rivers in TN for trout fishing. It has taken quite a beating, but is in great shape. Looking to upgrade to a larger 1080 or 1440 for a little more stability in coastal waters. I see listings for discounts on factory rejects often. Issues are usually with color, but yaks still have full waranty.
Big lure, big fish.
Th ebest fisihng kayak is the one that gets you on the water. I’ve fished pretty much everything from a $50 beater whitewater boat to a Hobie Mirage classic , to an Epic carbon fiber and kevlar touring boat.
SOme are better suited to certain situations, but just get on / in a yak, carry a rod and whammo it’s a fishing kayak.

i just bought a 2009 tarpon 120, this is my first yak and it is a blast. first time out it felt real stable and tracked really well. hit some boat wake and i never felt like i was going over. If you have around 900 bucks i would rec this yak. like Too Busy said: “get in a yak bring a pole and you have a fishing kayak.”(sort of)
Tarpon 120
As a few might know I’m a bit bias when it comes to yaks, but make sure you give Hobie a try. The ability to fish and peddal at the same time gives you a lot of options. In addition to the mirage drive and the stability, I can cover more water in my Hobie than any of the other yaks I’ve fishing.

I have two Hobie outbacks and love them.
love my Manta Ray
Seems to me that Hobie and Wilderness System pretty much have a yak for all ocassions. I started out with a Ride 135 and have since acquired Hobie Revolution (2), Hobie Outback (1), Malibu Stealth 14 (1), Hobie Pro Angler (1), Wilderness Tarpon 120 (1), and to be quite honest just depends on which one is easier to get on and off the truck to which one I fish with out of the Ride 135 and the Hobie Revolution. The others are fine but between those two yaks you have everything covered from Tarpon to trout to Bass to Flounder and everything in between. Just my two cents.

Don’t rule out the Hobie Quest, in addition to the kayak it already comes with a paddle and large dry bag.
