what's the earliest the reds come into the grass?

Although all my fly equipment is in storage until the house is ready, I’m trying to soak up as much info as possible.

Just curious as to when you start typically seeing the reds coming into the wadable grass? I assume they are up there looking for fiddlers/shrimp and my understanding is that the fiddlers are hibernating in the mud pretty good until the water warms? I also know the reds will come onto the flat to sun themselves but are pretty much just laid up and not too active? True?
I don’t know when the shrimp start showing up in good numbers?
Thanks.

The redfish are in the grass right now… always have been always will be… however this time of year they are more laid up hiding from flipper and trying to warm up. A few weeks back the water got up to 60 degrees and they were tailing like it was July, so the above is correct, once the water warms up they be feeding in the grass again. You can still find them now in the grass, they are just hard to get to eat in this mode… look for schools moving along grass edges as the water is coming in…

he doesn’t realize this is the best time of year…

well, in reality, when we were packing up the house, I was under too much stress to worry about getting all my fly equipment properly packed for the move. I know, that’s a weak excuse but that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
That said, I plan on making up for lost time when I do finally get my gear out.

You should unpack it just to stare at it, and hold it …

Makes me happy to go out in the yard and throw some line around, stress reliever

trust me Hurricane, I’m regretting not having my gear especially since I’m in the planning process of putting together a fall trip to the Bahamas and have got complete bonefish brain.
Looks like I’ll be able to access my gear the first week of April so hopefully that’s prime time for tailing tides.
