What's this new Raven Fork section

What’s is this new Raven Fork section / catch release that was established in October. I know about the fee from the reservation. Do you have to go through an outfitter??

Is it limited to the number of fly fiherman??

Sounds like the sport is headed to the trout ponds but using a streams instead…
Are we taking the ‘art’ and ‘hunt’ away from the sport??

in cherokee co.?

Here is the skinny on the raven fork in Cherokee NC. They have opened a 2 mile strech of river, known as the raven fork, for flyfishing catch and release only water. The Raven fork is located along big cove road which runs out of Cherokee just before you enter the GSNP. She stream is relatively tight cover, when compared to tailwater and is similar to the streams in the park. The fish in the stream are not similar however. they are freaking huge trout stocked here measuring in pounds not inches. Fish with Serious shoulders. The way the license thing works is you must first buy an annual license $20 bucks, then you buy a daily permit for $ 7 bucks to fish a particular day, don’t try and get around it the Cherokee patrol is watching the river and their presense is as thick as the fish. There are Brownies, brookies, and bows, with the Rainbows being the heavy fish, also some golden rainbows(not like the ones in Ca) The fish are sterile so they concentrate their efforts on growing not reproducing, per the biologist. There is no limit to catch, not that you can or would want to take em, and there as of right now is no angler limit per day that I am aware of. The plan is to lenghten the strech and also add a weir made of Limestone to increase insect growth. they stock every couple weeks so there are plenty of stupid fish, unlike the big “D”. Great place for a photo with a trophy. I have fished it 3 times and after a while you gotta kinda laugh at the size of these fish. Not my kinda thing for everyday as it isn’t too challenging, a guides/tourists dream and it is a fractionof the cost of similar setups like the Blackhawk in N Ga. If you go toss a muddler minnow with a split shot on the nose, Has worked every time, stay away from gold beadhead nymphs they have seen em all. Hope this helpss et me know if you need more info!

If it swims throw a fly at it!
