Caught this little guy today on base In a secret government lake so I thought it might be mutated or something. Just kidding but I throw my net here all the time and have never seen one…

Looks like a very well fed bowfin. Aka mudfish.

I have heard people call them mudminnows. I have caught several in the net there before.

Looks like bait to me.

I don’t think it’s a bowfin, but not sure what it is. That’s a new one to me.

They are native.

Mostly occur in freshwater, but I’ve caught them in my minnow trap in saltwater on occasion.

They do great in aquaria from my experience.
