whats up for 4-19

Sorry - did not mean to turn an offshore post into a engine repair thread but …

I have not taken the pump apart yet (no trailer, have to schedule a haul out and I am waiting for parts) so I can’t speak to the exact failure mechanism but the symptoms, blowing steam out the pee hole and the exhaust, are consistent with a failed impeller. Guessing I’ll find it shredded.

My question is, did you replace the foot because the water pump failed?

The feet were replaced because the gearboxes failed.

I can’t imagine the event that needed a sudden reverse like that…but that wouldn’t help the longevity of a gearbox. Hope it worked
for the avoidance.

Update - best I can tell the water pump is fine. Issue is the “F225 Exhaust Corrosion”. In other words its much worse than I thought but the SEI parts are not at fault

I’d post a report but … we went out at 3 AM headed for triple ledge, about 40 miles out overheat horn goes off on port engine. Blew a water pump. Limped back home and made it to the dock at 8 AM.

Side note - replaced lower unit on port engine with a new SEI (as in $1K aftermarket lower unit, not the $3K yamaha foot) foot. Replaced 200 hours/3 years ago. I’ve never had a yamaha water pump fail and certainly not with 200 hours on it.

I have had two SEI lower units. I’ve had water pump issues/over heating problems with all of them. They are more trouble than they are worth. Mine is currently working well but I seem to have to replace twice a season.
